Yep, ME880's front and rear. I rode since April with the Metzler on the rear and the stock Dunlop on the front. A few weeks ago I installed Metzlers front and rear. Then the wife and I took a 3 day trip to the NC mountains and rode the Dragon. What a difference. I didn't necessarily get any faster but the bike feels so much more stable, secure. You point it and it goes, no wander, no guessing if it would hold the line. You don't feel the cracks in the road at all. I got fewer miles out of the first Metzler I had on the rear compared to the stock Dunlop but I'm sold on the Metzlers now.
I too am sold on the Metzler's. I put them on my 00 Standard and noticed an immediate difference in how they performed compared to the Dunlop's. Forgot all about it until I just got my new 07 Street Glide. Took the SG out on the freeway that had new rain grooves installed and the bike wandered all over the lane. Went back the next day with the Standard and the Metzler's and the bike never moved. Became so used to the Metzler's i forgot how much the improvement was.
Soon as the Dunlop's are worn out on the SG, I'll be putting Metzler's on.
Now there is some interesting information... I was assuming that the tire size 140/90 is a metric size and could not find a tire chart that explained the difference or drew a comparison. I would like the wider 150 but don't feel comfortable with the clearance issues that you experienced. I ride to and from work but I do pleasure ride and look forward to a longer trip next year... Would love to do the mountain region and see God's country, but that is for another post.
I picked up a 2 3/4 inch bolt last month and my friend did a self vulcanizing plug and so far so good, but I can't trust it with a passenger so I am trying to come up with the money for the Mets... I just couldn't get the tire size issue resolved, and appreciate your in-depth reply. You certainly gave me a bit to ponder on and I look forward to my being able to help you all some day soon.
