heat wrapping exhaust

I've done it, not for awhile, and not on my current bike. It does help with the heat, and theoretically is a performance enhancement. (keep the gasses hotter, they travel faster). There's gonna be some guys that will tell you that you'll corrode your exhaust under the heat wrap, but that never happened to either of the bikes I had exhaust wrap on. The key is to get a good, tight wrap, and you won't have any problems.
The last bike I had with heat wrap on the exhaust was an old Bonneville bobber. The exhaust consisted of a couple of straight pipes, wrapped with header tape and a lollipop in the end. Ran it that way for a couple of years with no issues whatsoever.

Did it over 1-1/2 years ago to my V&H monster oval head pipes and yes it does make a difference on my 07-Road Glide as far as lowering the heat. Of couse, we did use a tuner at the same time the pipes were added so not so sure about the heat wrap by itself. I found a grey color wrap, and had the dealer install it while putting the new pipes on. I was told that the head pipes could crack over time due to the wrap holding so much heat in, and with the harley vibration helping to stress the metal, but so far no problems. The head pipes are noticeably cooler to the touch though. Hope that helps.
