Default Six gallon tank?

I know the specs show that my bike has a 6 gallon fuel capacity. But, I don't seem to be able to get that much into it. For example, this past weekend I rode until the low fuel indicator was illuminated, and when I pulled up to the pump the range display indicated I had 39 miles left. I filled up, but was only able to get 4.1 gallons into the tank. That seems like just over 5 gallons of fuel.

Not really a problem... does that match your experience?

I'm not sure if I got it 100% right but after going the 39 miles a low is shown on range idicator and then you have about 1/2 gallon left Also there is about a 1/2 gallon difference in capacity if you fill bike on jiffy stand or staight up.At any rate I don't trust any fuel gages 100%

From what I've read on here, I don't think the Fuel gauge is accurate. I've filled up when my fuel light was on and my display said 40 miles left. I put in between 4 1/2 to 5 gals. Maybe the moco has them set that way to protect the fuel pump. I've always heard it's not a good idea to run Fuel injections completely out????

The tank will hold six gallons. But you have to really take time squeezing in the last 3/4 gallon. For practial purposes it,s a 5 and a half gallon tank that you can squeeze 6 gallons in if you have the time and a gas pump you can slow way down.

I rode my bike to the point the DTE readout had a * there for several miles. I put about 5.5 gallons in it.

I have noticed the same thing. Actually got mine down pretty low and expected it to need over 5 gallons to fill and it stopped around 4 1/2

Dynamic tanks just don't have accurate readings with the gage. If you were to completely drain the tank, then fill it completely up, you will get 6 gallons in there. I miss the old tanks when you ran out of gas, switched to reserve and then started looking for a station.

While the DTE counter is semi-handy, it is by no means accurate. I use it as a rough gauge of how much distance I have remaining. I have, however, run 50 miles beyond the "0" mark and put in 5.8 gallons (yeah, I was doing it intentionally while riding around the metro Denver area).

I am pretty **** about knowing my fuel mileage (hard habit to break LOL ), so I know I can always go 235 miles minimum and generally 250 - 270 before I absolutely 'have' to fill up.

On a couple of occasions, I have gone 315 miles.

For your situation, you might invest in one of the 1 gal cans that fit in the saddlebag and literally go til it starts coughing (be sure to turn the scoot off asap once it does), then add the 1 gal of gas and head to a gas station to fill up!

Once you get down so far the reserve indicator will just read "low." I have put 5.7 gallons in without running out of gas, so i'm sure it'll hold 6 gallons if it's bone dry.

On the '08 FLTR I had and on the '08 FLHTCU I now ride both identical:

When I get to the final low fuel warning light it means there's a half gallon left.

Hitting the gas station right about then always means real close to 5.5 gallons to fill up.

* I always angle nozzle towards rear of tank and fill almost to overflowing unless the station's gas pump is crappy.
