I am thinking of getting a black denim Street Glide but have yet to make up my mind. I have heard all the horror stories both ways and thought maybe I could get some good information from someone who actually owns a bike painted with denim paint. I have heard of the fading like blue jeans and the once scratched always scratched tales. If you have a denim painted bike please tell me some of your pros and cons about it.
Love the bike I have a 2010 RG. Traded in a 2006 SG Colbalt Blue. Would not go back. Very easy to keep clean no waxing. Windex and soft cloth. Love it...
My 08 has 18,000 miles and I like it better that the vivid black on my last bike. Easier to maintain by far, almost never wipe it down like I did almost daily with my last bike. It still looks new. My wife liked the vivid black better, so I think it is more what look you prefer. To be honest I think it has held up better than the vivid black, it showed every small scratch and swirl.
Hello,
I'm a former Olive/Black owner I loved the paint myself easy to take care of. I used a few drops of spray detailer in a bottle full of water for the clean up chore. Always spray this paint before wipping as dry paint will tend to turn slick or become shinny where ya rub it alot like the tank & top of fenders.
As for touch up on scratches ya do it like all other paints don't over apply the paint go thin layers allowing a day or to so it can cure & then ya can tell of it needs another coat to make it feel even to the area next to it.
I had a vivid black Road King, great looking bike. Hated how I could see every swirl in the paint from cleaning and waxing
The denim black is very easy to clean. I use Windex, no ammonia, and hot water. Takes me about 15 minutes. I do not wax the denim. My bike has 10K miles on it. I don't think the paint is showing any more wear than my vivid black paint did.
Ive got a pewter denim, and i've never gave it a "real" washing. I use meguiers spot and spray. on the heavy bugs you can get pretty rough with them and not have to worry about the paint.
Love my black denim street glide. Am I the only one that seems to worry less about the paint since switching to denim? It's flat black so I don't really care about every tiny scratch or imperfection like I did with gloss paint.
Love mine...I did scratch one of the bag lids the first month I had it. I had the bag off the bike with the lid open and I knocked it over. I didn't bother trying to repair it but I have covers on the lids now to avoid boot scuffs etc. I love the denim black
