Default A paint scheme concept... opinions pls.

So, I'm tossing around the idea of doing up the Road Glide with a new coat of paint. Here's a concept I thought of. One of the forum members did some photoshop work and put the graphic on my actual bike.

You're familiar with the WWII icon Curtiss P-40 warhawk...

My concept....

Me and the wife on the warhawk-glide...

It's going to be a long winter!

Your concept is unique. Not sure it would be for me though. You've got to like it and that's what matters most.

One thing I can tell you with most custom paint schemes... They don't have mass appeal. You either like them or you hate them. Sometimes they're nice for somebody elses bike, but not yours. Sometimes they're initially appealling, but lose favor over time. Are you going to like it as much a year from now as you like it today?

Another consideration is resale. If you ever sell your bike, a custom paint job of this nature eliminates a lot of potential buyers.

These are things I've learned firsthand. In my younger days I did a lot of custom painting. Bikes, cars, helmets, etc. My favorites, and the most timeless paint schemes, were the simpler ones. Quality of finish and really nice colors rate way higher in my book than any design ever could.

I'm with him, unless you have a personal connection with that type of aircraft, most people will think that you are the bass player from Dokken holding his circa 83 BC Rich bass. (factory paint option)

..and why adopt an icon from the US Army Air Force?

Both Penhold and Cold Lake were huge Cold War support bases flying RCAF CF104 Starfighters.

get something with a Maple Leaf on there and I'm with you.

Mike

Looks kind of gimicky. Your bike looks great without the jaws.

Well its different, and if you like it then that's cool too.
Personally, not for me and not for my bike.

If you were going to do it I think you'd have to paint the bike OD green or gray and have it look like the bike has panels like a plane, and all the different writing from the plane needs to be there too. I think you'd like it for a year or so, and then want another paint job tho.

Subdued colors would make it look lots better.

To each his own...I wouldn't do it to a Harley. Although, I've seen this concept on a RC51 quite some years ago. That paint job looked tight. It was painted/air brushed to look just like your concept (except not OD), all they way down to the rivets in the aluminum.
