Maybe its just luck of the draw, but I have had bad luck with mine. I messed with air presuure and even tried a second set to improve the ride. They both stiffend up on me. I am on my second set and looking at other shocks for my Electra. (I have 60k on her now). I put on 10-15k a year-looking at Ricor or Progressive for greater longevity. Anyone try these for an extended time? 30k or so?
From ALL that I have seen on here and have heard the only way to keep your comfortable ride of the EG and still lose that 1" off the rear is to get the Progressive 940 shocks !! It is the only way you can get the 1" lower in the rear and still get the 13" Ride ! It will cost $500 but if you really do not like the SG ride in the rear then that is it ! I know I do not mind the SG rear 12" shock ride and there are many who do not and ride many miles with the 12" shock on , so you do have a very expensive way to go .
the stock shocks on the eglides are 13'' and have 4'' of travel. in order to get 13'' of piston travel, you'd be looking at 22'' shocks. that would be one hell of an inseam to be able to flatfoot that
find some shocks from an ultra classic. i have an 08 streetglide and the stock shocks being an inch shorter than the rest of the touring line in the interest of lowering the bike made it ride very harsh. that 1" does make a big difference. i got a pair of standard length ultraclassic shocks, installed them, and my bike rides a whole lot better. check the classifieds section here in the forum. i'm using 09 shocks on my 08 sg and they work great.
