Busted Crank Shaft
My 2008 Ultra is 32 months old 70,600 miles. While driving down the highway 65-70 mph on a Saturday afternoon 2 weeks ago bam stops running, pulled into parking lot and try to restart. Motor turns over no start. Had bike hauled home under Rode America. Dealer picks the bike up on Tuesday, service foreman calls me last Thursday crankshaft busted. Now have to wait on ESP adjustor to go by the dealer to ok work under warranty.
Does anyone know how long it usually takes for an adjustor to look at a bike. This is the longest I've gone since March 2008 not riding my bike. Going a little stir crazy.

Ouch. Out of curiousity, were you still running the stock compensator or had you had it changed out to the SE compensator? Now would be a good time to have an upgraded trued/welded crank thrown in and bump her up to a 110 or higher if you wanted more power.
If they don't cover, I think bagger76 here on the forum just had his rebuilt by revolution performance for $650. Thats quite a bit cheaper than a new crank and he had it welded and timkens installed. If I remember correctly I think the runout was less than .001 when they finished.
It should be covered.
However, get your ducks lined up.
They may want proof of proper servicing, i.e., receipts for oil purchases/changes.
if your dealer is worth a pinch, you will be covered. you bought the coverage, motor puked, dealer better make sure everything gets covered.

Wow two weeks!
Seems like this could be handled over the phone /email pics.
I had to wait three days for the ESP to approve replacing lifters.Waited 2-3 weeks to find out that the ESP would not cover the worn fairing on my Road Glide.
Remember, the ESP is covered by a separate insurance company.

My 2006 Rdglide with 63k on the odemeter had a scissored crankshaft on my stock 88 engine coming back from a trip. Dropped off at my local dealer when I got back. The dealer was able to check problem and that was about a week, due to being busy. No complaints so far, then it took ESP service rep about 10 days to come and inspect it. "Customer ran it low on oil" was his answer and the head wrench replied " then what is all this oil on my rack and in the motor?" He then pointed to a pile of 88 cranks in the corner and said " Did those engines run without oil too?" The adjuster said submit an estimate and we will review it.
The local dealer submited by fax an estimate for a complete rebuild pretty much all except cases and small stuff, vs a new 88 engine. the rear rod was binding, bearing toast piston cylinder and a bunch more didnt look good. The rebuild with labor was $4700 parts and labor to repair my original motor while the new motor was $2695 plus labor ($500 Ithink) I waited for ESP reply.
Week 3 ESP said no service records of service at dealership ,ESP requests copys of all service. I do all my own and sent bills for oil tires filters (pics of cut open ones looking for orange tensioner material inside ) big 2 tier tool box and my HF table lift plus geasy service manual with fingerprints on pages. Now starting to get pissed. Missed 2 rd trips and still waiting for ok for covered bike rental per contract. Not riding for a few weeks and having a rd trip , get my 96 Sportster serviced so I have wheels in the mean time.
Week 4 Ask dealership to rattle their cage at Esp and ask them to say" I think this guy is pissed by now waiting and might be ready to go off the deep end" LOL I want a brand new engine so I am not really pressing the matter, but they ok a new motor.
The dealer Removes old engine ships off to harley and about another week goes by and it arrives. Few days to install and do other covered items not related to engine problem and is ready.
Total time start to finish 45 days . Am I satisfied? yes dealership people 100% for their effort and putting up with me. ESP company 75-80% , honoring contract but slow to act.
The Esp companys collect your money, but you must jump thru hoops somestimes to get them to pay.
