Default Started The Big Bore Project

As I shared with a friend of mine on the forum, you don't just start a big project, you arrive there. Well, today I arrived and I started my 107" big bore project.

Like my cam project last winter, I am doing a full pictorial and write up so the non-mechanics out there, like me, can do a project like this. Instead of posting a series of threads, I am going to do the whole project and post everything after I'm done.

I am going try and get everything done by mid-January, but that depends on the turn around on the parts I have not ordered yet. So, yes there is still time to make suggestions and chime in on ideas to spend my limited amount of money.

My plans are very subject to change and dependent upon the direction the wind is blowing, but as of this moment, I want to use the FuelMoto 107 kit and possibly send the heads to get a stage 2 job done on them.

I am keeping the TW6-6 cam because I think it will provide excellent results with this setup and keep the bike manageable for one and two-up touring.

The exhaust is a different story. I am all over the road on whether to keep the stock crossover head pipes or go true dual. What I have decided is I am going to add the Rinehart 4 inch mufflers. I like my Jackpot mufflers a lot, but for reasons that need not be explained, the Rinehart's are calling me.

I've got my garage all setup and toasty warm. The tools are out and since I've already started I'm at the point of no return.

That's the plan for now. Let me know what you think. Suggestions are welcome!

atrain, guys like you are the reason this forum is so good. I know you'll do a great job on the write so thanks for taking the time to do so. This place seems to have been pretty dead lately, that being said, I hope others will take time to do good write ups this winter to keep pathetic people like me entertained and informed . Anyhow, as far as the build goes, have you given any thought to the lower end? IE crank or timkens for the crank and who are you considering for headwork?

Good for you. If you were just a little closer, I'd be there to lend a hand. I'm saving my pennies for my next project, but right now, I'm thinking I can get all the performance my crank can handle just staying at 103/
