Have 23,000 miles on the Ultra and still running the Original OEM Brakes that it came with when tell some people this get weird looks .. Just Wondering what some others may be getting .. My 08 EGS also had the original Brembos on them when traded it in with 20K on the clock ..
I change brake pads every time I change a tire (~10k rear, ~20k front). I figure that I have the wheels off anyway, might as well change the brake pads. Depending on the braking I've done, I may have thrown away lots of pad or they were pretty well ready. I figure the brakes and tires are probably the two most important safety devices on the bike and I'm not going to take chances with either. For those times that I've thrown away "perfectly good" pads, I at least had the piece of mind of knowing they were going to stop when I needed for the life of the tire.
Well thats my plan to change Brake pads when change front and rear tires at 25K although the tires will have 15K (R) and 20K (F) on them .. Changed the Front at 5K with a D408 Freebie cause of the bad D407 cupping issue and changed the rear at 10K Because had a 5K trip to Sturgis coming up .. Getting off topic here but just curious to others Brake Life ..
Got 15K on the rear and 20k on the front brakes. If you have 23k on them, I'd check them before riding season begins. Now is a good time to change if necessary. Just sayin......

Appreciate that Estil.. Ride all year down this way, and just checked them, will be good til 25K and changing them out then regardless ..
wow, had no idea that brake pads wore out so quick. i have 29k on an 09 RK and they seem to work just fine. i certainly expected to get at least 50k out of a set of brake pads. still running original front tire and the back only has 16k on it...going to daytona and had planned on changing tires when i got back...guess i will look at the brakes then too.
Brake pads don't wear out at all if you don't use them and they wear out very quick if you use them alot. It all depends on riding style.
I don't use my brakes much compare to some, but I engine brake alot more than some. My brakes last great, but I wear back tires out much faster than most without doing any burnouts. Brake pads are alot cheaper than tires. I guess I could save alot of money by changing my riding habits.
