Good point.

Back in 2003, 99% of us used to weld our own frames, form our own fiberglass saddlebags, and grow rubber trees in our backyards for our own tires.

Seriously, best wishes with your build and I am envious of your shop, but I just don't see that much of a difference between Harley owners/bikes/builds from 2011 to 2003. 8 years???

If you compare 2011 to 1971 or 1954, etc, then can understand your point a little better.

ok MR opionated..you state that you ain't been around awhile how much things have changed from what they were...then you ramble on saying cvo's ain't for you cause your mr customizer.... BUT then you say that the 2003 cvo rk was yours back in the day when things were different and you customized evrything yourself.. PUHLEASE, quit the bs and go pay your bill at the shop that has your roadking cause that don't look like a garage that belongs to somebody who hasen't been around the bike scene for awhile

Anyone with money can buy something... but not everyone with tools can build it.

No matter how it turns out, congrats on doing it yourself.

I think you guys took me wrong. There is nothing wrong with Harley's CVO's, I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY like them. My point was and is that when I read a bunch of threads where people ask, "should I build my Road King into a Streetglide" it used to be, "hell yes, just source out the parts and get 'er done", but from what I have been reading lately, most of the thought out there is just take the hit and trade her- and buy the one you really want. And there is nothing wrong with that either. What I am trying to do is build a custom Streetglide with a budget of less than half of the new '11 CVO. Yes, I know it is a 03 Road King, I am not stupidly thinking it will be worth more than a new one. However, if you notice, I started with a 100th anniversary Screaming Eagle CVO Road King, with the 103 engine, and all the chrome accessories, and my goal is to build my own SE Steetglide that when I am done, will look like a one off factory CVO. I am actually surprised no one said anything about me screwing up my Screaming Eagle, and ruining the value and such!!!!

What I meant was back then, there was not as much Factory Custom stuff (CVO) as there is now. It seemed there were more dealer customs, but there was a lot more money back then too...

You already had a sweet CVO before you removed the first bolt and nut for your project. Why change 1 of what 1500-3000 2003 CVO Kings? For the price you probably purchased it back for, you could of found a stock or close to stock 03 King and started from there. Makes no sense to me to do that to a beautiful King and on top of that, its 1 of only not so many made. But to each their own and if you got the bucks go for it. Dont mean to touch a nerve, just sayin.

In 2003, I was the GM of a HD Dealership. I haven't been out of the bike scene, I have just been out of the Harley scene- as I went over to the metric side. And you are right, that is a part of our shop, and we are a metric dealer. I was able to find a few standard tools though

If you really wanted to put your money were your mouth is, how about starting from scratch with a bare frame?
Whoa ... where did that come from??
