the value of a new CVO bike is that YOU can't build the same exact new bike for what they charge for the CVO...
SO, "if" you want to crow about building your own CVO version, then take a new 2011 Street Glide and put all of the CVO accessories on it (and custom paint) for half the price of a new 2011 CVO SG....

anybody (and most people on this forum have already done and are doing this) can take an older and make a CVO type clone for less than half of the price of a 2011 CVO SG.... what you're doing isn't as special as you may think.

on the other hand, I'm sure it will be a beautiful bike when it's done! keep posting pics of the progress.

Well that RK should already have the 110 motor. What are you doing paint wise? Honestly, its already a real good looking bike.

I'm not saying you screwed it up or devalued it. My point was, for the $$ you used to purchase it back, why not just start with a stock king and leave the 03SE King an orginal 03SE King. Hell, maybe you wanted your old SE back for sentimental purposes and take it to today's CVO standards and have a brand new one of 03 SE King with a modern twist. Anyway, its your $$, you go and have fun with your project. I hope it turns out to be more awesome than it was when it was born. Bottom line is do what makes you happy, I didnt mean to chit on your dream man.

This is what I consider a NON MOCO CVO.
Will be interested in your example.

Boy! I sure didn't find that to be the case at all. You will spend over $5000 on just chroming the hand controls. You still have paint, wheels, tires, frame and engine. I'm all for customizing your own bike, but you can't build a CVO for half the price of a CVO.

I used to really be into this stuff a while back, but took a break and went a completely different direction. Now that I am back, it looks like a lot of the stuff I took for granted back then doesn't seem to really happen any more- actually it seems everybody buys their stuff already done by the MOCO- or they leave it close to stock. Now I am not trying to start anything here, just calling it how I see it.

If I have already lost you- I apologize. Anyways, I saw a 09 CVO Road Glide and I liked it- and then I went over to the dealership and saw a new 11 CVO Street Glide, and I really, really liked it.........until I saw the price. Now its not that I can't afford it, I just don't want to. So I sat down and figured I can build just as cool Street Glide for about half the investment.

So I picked up a 03 Screaming Eagle Road King from a friend of mine(funny thing is I sold it to him back in 03) and started ripping in to it. Thought you guys might want to see how it turns out- or not.
What the hell was you thinking?? Next time you get an original idea get over it until you come here first and we will tell you what to do!

Where have you been

Ya gota love these folks - I will be watching and learning and keeping my opinions to myself; for the most part..

Good Luck,

Where did I say anything about "investment"? The KBB on a CVO is higher than a modified bike, so you are retaining some of the money you spent on CVO upgrades. Whereas with an upgraded stock bike, you can just kiss it all goodbye cuz it won't get you any more for the bike. That's all I'm sayin'.

I've always only done a few small things with my bikes. But like the OP I would like to build my own by starting with one and changing it. Not a bare frame.

The bike I'm thinking about is my 10 dyna Superglide. I would order the 120R motor, pull all the lighting and signals off, install a fat drag tire in the rear and make a drag strip bike out of it. It would be a hoot.

It would not take any real building skills but still would be unique enough.
