Default PITA Baffle Change V&H Big Shot Duals

Ordered quiet baffles for my bike, since the standards with the 510 cams are killing my ears.

What I assumed would be a 20 minute job turned into more than that. isn't that always the case?

The fishtail tips are held in by two bolts, once removed, the bolt that holds the baffle in place is behind the heat shield. On the right side, pretty easy to remove heat shield, but the left side is a PITA. I wound up dropping the left pipe altogether, only to find the bracket that mounts on the starter crack in half, although I suspect it's been broken for awhile. Pics attached. Got the right side pipe back up and hung, just gonna wait until Monday to call V&H to see about a new bracket.

I did have fun watching flames come out of the rear cylinder. I wanted to hear what it sounded like with the right pipe on, but no left pipe.

Ahhh, the things we do when we're bored right?

el rey, you sure got that right about the "three hours of riding, five hours of cleaning" i know that since i got my streetglide in 08, black of course, along with tons of chrome, it's tough to keep it clean. as i get older, i have begun to realize that those 20 minute jobs can be expected to be an hour job if i'm lucky.

That's for sure! I enjoy cleaning though, I put on some good music and go to town.

I thought the complaint was going to be about getting the stupid baffle in with all of the extra fiberglass wrapping, I fought with mine for 40 minutes on the right pipe before getting it in close enough, and I haven't touched the other side.

Hopefully V&H can hook you up with a new bracket!

It wasn't too bad, my neighbor was over BS-ing with me, so as it turned the baffle to put it in, I took a long flat tipped screwdriver and kind of fed the packing in. But, yeah, it's a tight fit.

You would think V&H would have made a notch of some sort in the heat shield to allow much easier access to doing a baffle change. I like the standard baffles, but my tinnitus is killing me.

Bike is sitting in the garage with the left pipe off until I can either get a new bracket or have the machinist at my work re-weld the one I have.

Three days off this weekend, and no riding! Damn. Here's my neighbor's Heritage Springer with quiet baffles, I think it sounds mo' better, not as much high end crackling as the standard baffles.

Will post a new video later this afternoon with the quiet baffles, so anyone interested can hear 'em.

I'm amazed at the crackling sound that's taken away with the quiet baffles. I do believe, my ears will appreciate it.

Awesome, they hooked you up with a new bracket?

Gotta protect the ears for music instead.

Actully the bracket that cracked wasn't V&H. It was the L shaped one that you remove from the HD bracket and reinstall on the new V&H bracket behind the rear jug.

I stopped at V&H's office yesterday, the tech pointed that out to me. I had forget about that part being an HD part. None the less, he hooked me up with a bunch of V&H stickers and a catalog.

Some of the girls in the office were hot, I looked, but they weren't in the catalog.

Well, after riding with the quiet baffles for one day. Back in, went the standards. I like the quiet baffles, but like the standards better.

So, anyone interested in quiets, look for them in the classified section at the end of the week.
