I am planning on putting Supper trap Se mufflers and air filter. My question is do I need to do a download now or can I wait? I will just be able to make this purchase. So any advise would be greatly appricated very much. I just don't want to do anything to damage anything.
if money is limited do the mufflers first as they will not require a download, then when you can afford the download or SEPST tune have the a/c installed.
I installed SE aircleaner and Supertrapp se slipons on my 2011 RGU and it ran perfect. I ended up getting a stage 1 harley download and believe it or not it still runs perfect.
Harleys, (like cars,) are lean tuned to satisfy EPA requirements. Motors are happiest with a 13 or 14 to 1 fuel/air ratio. Stage 1 downloads increase the fuel/air closer to those numbers.
On 07 and earlier EFI, putting on both the exhaust and the AC without the download only increases the air, not the fuel. Leaner motors run hotter. 08 and later have some self-adjustment. If you're 07 and earlier, install just the exhaust until you get the download.
Just asking; in this situation would Xied work better than Harley download? Is the download still stuck with EPA 14.6 requirement?
Yes, the xied's would work, but they don't raise your rev limiter like the DL does. If raising it doesn't matter to you. The xied's would be cheaper. I've been running them for two years with no problems. JMO
