Default Oil pressure at idle?

01 Ultra Classic with Stage 2 and S&S gear drive .

What kind of oil pressure should I be seeing on the gauge when it's idling hot? I'm getting between 30 and 40 when I'm on the road, and it's steady, but I was sitting at a light this afternoon and noticed it sitting on 0. As soon as I took off, it immediately went back over 30. Gauge issue, sensor, or something much much worse?

Sounds like it's idled too low. It needs idling up a little.

Low enough to scare ya at a stop, but high enough to keep the low oil light off.

Harleys are about flow, not pressure.

That's exactly what it was. No oil light, but from my position in the seat, it looks like it's sitting on zero, and that's enough to make my eyes pop out.

That's pretty normal with the early TC oil pumps, the 07 & later pumps usually run 10-15# at idle, that's why I usually recommend the SE hydraulic tensioner upgrade since it includes the new pump. It shouldn't be a problem, but it doesn't give you the warm & fuzzies.

Sales guy told me to expect what you are seeing. At idle the oil preasure will drop way down. It's ok.
