I had the luxury of riding a Road King last weekend with mini-apes. I must say I will be moving to a set when time allows. The bars were Wild 1's Chubby Bagger bars, which fit stock legnth cables. Instead of leaning down (read hunched over) I was able to sit up straight and keep my arms straight in front of me vs. my arms drastically angled downward. I had no numbing sensations or discomfort after a 4 hour ride.

Also, it looked really good to have the wires run internally in the bars. [sm=badbadbad.gif]

Wow, i have to agree a lot of haters, I had 16's on my heritage and loved them, one of the most comfortable rides ever. I never had problems with cramping or hands falling asleep. I mean if you don't like the look that's your deal but no reason to bash, Personally I love the look and have seen many baggers that look great with apes and have never seen a road king with apes that I didn't like but that is the style I like, hey I may even Put them on the roadglide one of these days. to be honest they do have a different feel when it comes to steering but you get used to it quickly, it took me a while to adjust to the low bars on the roadglide and after 5K they are not near as comfortable.

Amen... What is with all the CR@P!! I highly doubt all the Ape bashers have ever even ridden with them... I had a Heritage for years and always had Wild1 504's they were great... When I got my RK I put 16's on 'em and I ABSOLUTELY love 'em... Do you all think its a conspiracy by all us Ape hangers...Hey.. Lets tell everyone they're comfortable when they are really not?? get over it...I've been riding since I was a kid...Do you think I'm gonna endanger myself for the sake of Image??? Pleeeaase... Who cares who puts what on their own bike... I swear this site is getting like kindergarten...

It's incredible the amount of negative opinions, and they arent subtle...

visit some gatherings, take a look at some biker bars... ask to sit and get the feel... I think you will find that teh bikers who have them love them and those that dont... well just dont.

get hands on opinions not some a$$hole who is going to bash them just because... wtf people, grow up, I swear my highschool kid is more mature than some of these pompous ****** on this site.

Get what you like... take your time and make an informed decision

I had 16" apes with 1' risers on my 85 softail. I'm 6'2" tall and I rode that bike for 12 years and 60k miles with never a handling problem, no numb hands or tired arms and no back problems. On several trips I put on 600 miles a day without any fatigue. I never felt unsafe or out of controll and I never laid it down....................BG

I tried a bunch of my buddies road kings( they have all different set ups) before I settle on my bars. 16" wild 1's. The comfort is the best with these bars. I love them and would never have a bike with anything different. I'm a big guy at 6-8. As far as control, for me it seemed to add to the control of the bike at bothe super slow turns to high speed riding. This could be due to my size and arm length. With a fairing, yes they due look a little goofy, but without they look great, IMOP.

FWIW i was leery about them until I put them on my RK. I love'em and only wish I had gone higher 12 - 16. They fit me like a glove, and they look great.

(from GMONEY) Opinions are like azzholes, everybody has one!!!
Actually, some people have two!

My friend put 18" apes on his RK. I tried it, (5'6") and I thought the steering was a bit more effort at low speed. However, I likes the look it grew on me, and they were comfortable at cruising speeds.

He loved them, and that was all that mattered.

If you like 'em , get 'em![sm=goodidea.gif]
