Default 08 Electra Glide Starter noise

Having problems with my 08 Glide. When hot, I have a severe grinding noise coming from primary area of bike when starting. Stoped by Harley Dealership yesterday. Said probably need new SE Compensator as he is seeing more and more of these issues. At 250.00 bucks for this, not including labor, it can be quite expensive. Anyone heard of a recall? My engine is completely stock except for Arlen Ness Fuel Management System.

Stock compensators are an issue sense HD went to 96" (2007). All 2011 touring bikes come with SE compensators. Try a search, lots of threads on the problem.

Thanks for your response. Called my dealer and said this is not a recall, but they are seeing quite a few of these issues on the 96's.

Yup, that is why starting in 2011 all TC96s came stock with the SE compensator. Get 'er done.

Thumbs up Compensator/Starter 2009 Ultra Classic

I have had the starter noise and hard starts for some time, seems it only happened after stopping engine for a short time to refuel or run in a quickstop. Daytona HD replaced starter last March it was destroyed. But this did not stop the noise. I ordered a new SE compensator recently and installed it this week and my noise and hard starting problems are fixed.

Harley dealers would not admit to the compensator problem at all they came up with all sorts of could be this or that.

Thanks to this forum my problems are solved :-)

If you have extended warranty dealer will upgrade to SE just pay the price difference least that's what I did.
