second the current record is closer to 200 mph out of a super charged 98" motor on a bagger
now if my friends speedo was off which ive heard of before on sport bikes thats one thing but i know what he told me. even if it was off by lets say 15mph that would still be in the 140-150 range which to me is pretty dam fast. either way this wasnt a pissing contest and no one is on the "ill show you up" hype except maybe you
The power required to increase the speed of a fixed shape in a fluid medium, air in this case, is the cube of the change in speed. This a fixed constant, google it. The top speed of a Glide with a 96 motor of around 65 rear wheel horsepower is somewhere in the 100 to 105 mile range, verfied by many test reports. To double that speed would take eight times the power, about 520 horsepower. To increase that speed 50% would take four times that power, 260 horsepower. That is about what it would take to to push a Glide of any kind up to over 150 mph. A Busa, which already has 175 rear wheel horsepower and has probabley less than a third of the drag of an Street Glide will do about 190 mph. To increase its speed just 60 mph takes in increase in HP up to about 450. I have to agree with Bwana1
Good article and an impressive speed but three was no mention of how much power the setup made. It would have had to have been very high because the air only cares how much drag a shape has and how much power is being put to the ground. To go that fast with a baggers drag will take mucho power.
Are you sure you not talking kph? 165mph on a 95" SG doesn't seem possible.
Unless you're on a RG. JK!
Seriously, my 1200 bandit that weighs 550 pounds and rates 98 HP and 80 torque and is NOT shaped like a SG only gets up to 135. And thats 135 with the Tach not buried and no speed limiter. It's just not enough power to breach 135.
No way a 900 pound SG with a sail on the front with just 10 or so more HP can do 165 miles per hour unless it's being dragged by a Busa being dragged by a bullet train on nitrous going down hill in the vacuum of space.
I had my last ultra between 115 & 120, never held it wide open long - maybe a mile. The speedo could be way off though, I`ll try my new build this year with my GPS. I never ride fast, I just like to get to speed quick! If buddy had a bagger doing 165mph, he must have forgot to tell us he was being pushed or pulled by a fighter jet! LOL!!
Man got 118,on my 2001 FLHT,and could do more. What a difference a 32 tooth tyranny sprocket makes. The perfect match,to a 95 cu in twin cam.Serious though had a 1974 Norton 850,and I never found out how fast it would haul,. scary fast, wish I had that bike back.
