I plan to buy an 09 ultra with stage 2 and rush exhaust. I notice that the ultra, both this and other, vibrated like crazy at idle, especially in the handlebars. I realize the 2011 engine mounts were changed so this is no longer an issue. I am not used to this, as my fatboy is smooth with little/no vibration in the bars. So, for those with ultras:
1. Is the vibration that bad while travelling, or does throttle lessen vibration?
2. Does this cause any issues in your hands/forearm like numbness on long rides?
3. Can anything be done to stop it?
The levels off as soon as you take off I ride my Ultra on the highway 70 -75mph and its rock steady your fatboy has a counter balanced motor and is solid mounted the ultra is rubber mounted thus the vibration.....I bet your fatboy vibrates in the handle bars at 65-70 I know my softail did.....by they way me and couple of buds rode 750 miles non stop NY to Tenn and had no vibration problems at all. Get the Ultra you wont be disapointed.
You have a balanced motor in your Fat Boy which makes it smooth as a baby's butt. The 09 Touring models came out with a 4 pt motor mount system which cut down on the vibration compared to the older touring bike. To answer your questions; no they do not vibrate after you take off and are very smooth while riding down the road, no issues from vibrations as far as I know. After riding jap bikes for years I had the same concern when I got my 07 Road King, now that bike vibrates much worse than the newer ones. personally I have grown to like the vibration. Once you are off the line it smooths right out! Go for it, you'll love it!
thanks everyone, that's what i hoped and expected. It's a 2009 ultra rootbeer, stage 2, rush exhaust, bunch of chrome accessories, oil cooler, se tuner, etc, 4100 miles. i only pray it doesnt sell before my loan comes through in a week!

I have an '09 Ultra:
1. No it is not, yes it does.
2. Nope
3. Don't stop and idle! ;-) he he he
I echo someone else here - I had metric bikes for years, this '09 is my 1st HD. I thought the vibe would be bothersome, no it isn't, I got used to it. The GREAT thing is how smooth it is once you move forward, really, seriously, I was TRULY amazed. Smoother ride then ANY metric momo I have ridden in my 34 years a ridin'.
