Default Picking a new FLHRC 2011

Between now and mid March. I was wondering what is the first upgrade you go for. Also why do so many get rid of the leather bags for the fiberglass ones? I'm getting the Root Beer color.

Thanks
David

I would go for a new seat....but thats me. And as far as the bags alot of people like the look of the fiberglass bags and that they can be locked. I like the look of my leather bags...it matches my seat! But locks on my leather bags would be nice.

David..

Congrats. I just picked up a RootBeer RKC last week. I went in fully expecting to drive off the vivid black I had been looking at and found out that the dealer's other location had one in RootBeer. They trucked it over for me to see and ride and when they were unloading it in the sun the color just pops. I think it is a color that doesn't take pictures well and needs to be seen in person to really appreciate the depth.

Anyhow, bags: I think some like the hard bags since they are lockable. Others prefer the looks. I like the leather covered ones for the classic look.

As for things to consider getting: backrest, bling such as floorboard covers, light vizors, real grips, laydown plate frame. Maybe a windshield bag (there is one that made for the classic). On the classic look theme, I ordered the nostalgic chrome bag rails today. Make sure you like the bars. Some change those for looks or better fit.

Once you sort out the the cosmetic stuff. think about what you want to do, if anything, with exhaust, cams etc. I think the 103 motor won't really be appreciated without some work to open it up some. That is currently where I am stuck pondering. I'd like to get pipes and stuff down within the initial 60 day period to get it bundled into the warranty.

Good luck and enjoy. I'll watch this thread for ideas too.

The First mod is gasoline and more gasoline.

The when you butt is sore and you shoulders and back is hurting. Think about what you need to do to make the bike as comfortable as possible for your style of riding.

Unless it's just going to be a bar hopper.

new bars and the right seat to get the comfort just right is first priority for me in upgrading a touring bike, I think some prefer the hard bags because they can be locked and never lose their shape, but I think it all depends on the look you are going for, if you want a classic look, can't beat the leather, more modern you can go glass, just my humble opinion.

Hey David... congrats on the new King. That rootbeer color is very nice in the sun.
You don't need to do anything but ride. After you log some miles you'll know what you want to do, if anything.
My guess is a seat... the stock ones suck.

When I bought mine, I purchased slip ons and a new aircleaner. It's a good power increase and the sound will no longer be embarassing.

Start there and fill in the custom 'you" parts as you look through magazines, attend bike shows or stop in to a cycle shop.

The fun is just beginning my friend.

Ride the bike for at least 1K miles. Then start thinking about ergonomics, make the bike fit you. By doing the changes that put rider comfort first you will like your ride even more. Good Luck
