Default Newbie Questions - 1994 FLHTC

My uncle is offering to sell me his 1994 FLHTC that is in pristine condition for $5,000. It has 54k miles on it however, about 15k in, a crack produced in the block and was replaced by Harley Davidson for free because it was a defect. When he did the replacement he put a balanced crank in it as well as replaced the carb with, what I guess, is a popular American made carb. My questions are pretty basic:

How common and easy is it to remove the seat and rear storage on this bike to slim it down for just local highway and street riding?

What are some known issues that I should expect with this model year?

I've ridden sport bikes and dirt bikes in the past, is this a good model to go to as far as comfortability is concerned?

Thanks in advance!

A 94 with a replacment Evo and a carb is a good , solid bike. It has the 93' and up saddlebags, so your good to go there.

You can get seats from Lepera, Mustang and several other aftermarket companies that will fit model years from 91-96 in all different styles to get both the "slimmed down look" and the comfort that you want.

The rear luggage rack that the tour pac attatches to is riveted to the frame. Drill out the 2 rivets and unbolt it from the top of the shocks and remove it. You can easliy make the detatchable tour pack mount kit for the 97 to 07 electraglides fit to the 94 frame. You can also easliy get the license plate that goes below the tail light as well as a replacement tail light from J&P cycles or many other aftermarket companies and that will clean up the back end a lot.

Reccomend that you flush the brake lines front and rear, replace the front brake lines with stainless and get some new pads, some fresh rubber on it, grease the wheel bearings. change the fluids, charge the battery and take it out and run it.

For tunes, you can get a complete "retro radio kit" from biketronics, all plug n play that will provide you am/fm/cd/mp3/ ipod with much improved sound and still allow you to use the factory hand controls.

they make multiple replacement windshields in any color and hight you want and all the chrome trim, bumpers , etc can be removed to get the look your going for.

Older 5 speed evo's are great bikes and you can have a reliable , comfortable runner for a long time. My 89 served me well up until this year. Just traded in for an 11' StreetGlide with the powerpac.

Reccomend you also check out the EVO forum on this site, lots of good folks there to help you build it into what you want.

5K is a good deal. I'd buy it if I were you. You can always get your money back down the road.

I had a 97 years back and it was a great bike.

your uncle loves you.

I sold my 95 @ 80000 miles for $6500

That'll be a great bike, no year/ model issues to worry about at all.

You'll do fine with it. That's a great deal, you can ride it for years and still get every cent out of it that you paid for it.
