I have a 07 Street Glide with stock head pipes, V & H monster ovals, big sucker air filter and the V & H fuel pak. Im looking at going with a Power Commander III or V and taking off the fuel pak but leaving everything else as is.
Can anyone tell me what I can expect by doing this? Will I see any power/performance gains?
Thanks.
Depending on the tuen that you install in the PC, you will see some performance gains, lessening of dead spots in the power curve, curing any pinging or decel popping you may be getting. all depdnds on the map you have installed.
My redline on my 07 SG is 6200 now. And i don't have any hesitation in 6th gear. Also no pinging in 5th or sixth either. Never had fuel pals though, so can't compare. Just telling you what mine does. I have 2 to 1 rineharts though, only difference.
I just installed the PCV yesterday on my 07 Ultra. I was mapped by Fuel Moto to my bike and honestly I cannot tell any difference. Maybe I have not riden enough yet, but like I said, to me it does nothing.
Paul, it really depends- ARE YOU seeing a problem now?
Is it a problem which can lead to failure, or are you hoping the new box will unlock secret potential that the old box didn't?
Are you ready to learn how advancing timing at X rpm and Y atmospheric pressure affects the requirement for injector pulse width.
If you are unsure, you could certainly consult with a good known tech in your area.
in MOST cases, your new "dealer" will suggest the unit they have best knowledge of. You are now "hooked" and your new "dealer" will have a repeat customer esp. if you make any changes.
( the is why H-D dealer sell the H-D tuners, and fuelmoto sells power commanders- they have more experience with that product- and will more quickly get a better ( hopefully) result
it really comes down to you, if you think there is a problem which needs curing, then look for a cure by all means. It could be as simple as having someone who is good with the V&H check your settings
the least expensive power gains to be made on our bikes are to be found with a less restrictive intake and exhaust--- after those first 10 cheap horsepower, the price rises quickly.
Next step for power is cams, if you feel the need.
then boring, then head work etc. etc.
Thanks Mike, my bike seems to be running great. A little hotter than I would like but falls in the safe range from what I hear about 220 degrees after a good ride (I'm in AZ) so I dont think thats to bad.
I was just wondering if the PCV would unlock more HP and Torque and if it would be a good investment.

Install the PCV & some cams, that will really unlock some HP & TQ in that 07!!
I went from fuel pak to PCV back when I still had stock cams. My bike ran great with the fuelpak, it pulled hard with no hesitation, absolutely zero popping or backfiring, and my fuel mileage was in the upper 30s. The only reason I changed out to power commander was because V&H didn't have a map for the cams I was planning to run.
I changed to PCV with autotune just before I swapped in my SE204 cams. The bike didn't run any better (or any worse), and my fuel mileage dropped into the low 30s. Other than the drop in fuel economy, there was no noticeable difference in the way it performed. With the 204 cams, same story, about 30 mpg, but good power and no backfiring.
The fuelpak works great if you can find a map that matches your bike's configuration. The biggest drawback of the fuel pak is that you can't adjust your timing with it, and you can't dyno tune with it.
OK, so Paul you need to be able to adjust or fix should you fail emissions ( we have tailpipe testing here for you non- Maricopa County residents).
With mpg numbers like posted above, you can guess that his combination is either running way rich or that the cam overlap ( the period when both intake and exhaust valves are open an the same time entering the intake stroke) is too long.
This valve opening has the exiting exhaust gasses "pull" the intake mixture into the cylinder causing a more than 100% fill (which acts like higher compression) and free extra power- the downside is you have raw fuel exiting the pipes, and the MVD tailpipe sniffer calls the cops on you.
this "pull" can be much a function of header design, 2 into 1 pipes do this better at low rpm which is how they help enhance torque
---or the rider above could be experiencing a combination of the 2 ( because everything in a motor is related and affects everything else)
most of us should be seeing better than 40 mpg, less than that and you have to wonder why- if this is a result of performance mods and the owner is ok with it, that IS fine. when I say wonder why- I mean understand the cause of the result
