Default Seat Atch Mod

I have an 02 Ultra Classic where the seat is attached under the tour pak through the rear fender with a phillips screw. I have a 12" screwdriver to remove it. The problem is you can't go at it straight-up but at an angle which is taking its toll on the screw head. Has anyone with this problem found a better way?

Harley makes a thumb screw to replace the phillips head screw. Works great and looks nice too.

I put a threaded stud in the fender ( with red locktite).- it was a bolt, I just cut off the head and chased the threads with a die.

so the rear of the seat slips over the stud.

I then have a very deep nut which I tighten on top of that. I use a 1/4" drive socket on a flexible ( spring type) driver.

it allows to get in there which out scraping and scratching anything- it can't be seen and I had all the stuff in my garage so cost nothing...

Great idea, I may do that next time I pull the seat off.

I had the HD thumbscrew that KCFLHTC showed a picture of on my bike when I purchased it! I constantly switch back and forth between seats depending on if I have a passenger or not and this makes it EXTREMELY handy! The only down side is if you loose the little plastic washer, be prepared to lose the thumbscrew, it will vibrate loose!
