Default Removing Front Brake Pads on RK

I want to de-glaze and round the front edge of my front brake pads on my '07 RK Classic. How do you remove the pads? Do you need to remove and/or split the calipers? Do you need to remove the wheel? Help!

Unbolt the two pins holding the caliper to the fork leg and slide the caliper down the rotor until it clears. There should be a clip holding the pads in the caliper. Not sure on the new ones though. It should be obvious how to pull the pads once you have the caliper in your hands. You don't have to remove the brake line or "split the caliper" as far as I know.

You should invest in a service manual for your bike as soon as you get a chance.

Remove caliper from fork slider and then remove the both 6mm/12p pad pins and drop the pads.

pull the 2 pins 1/4 12 pt socket, and ease them out, note inside and outside pad position, when reinstalling, pump up pedal spray the pistons with brake cleaner, push them back and reinstall. If you look on lyndall brakes website they have instructions posted. its real easy.

After you have done this a few times trying to get rid of the squeal and it keeps coming back, order pads from lyndal and your problem will be cured.
I became an expert on pulling, cleaning and beveling the front pads and finally gave up and replace them with Lyndals which solved the problem.

That's what I thought too. I put on the Lyndall Z-pads and I was thrilled when I first rode the bike - the squeak was gone. Unfortunately, it came back with a vengeance about 200 miles later, and is now as bad as ever. I'm now in the process of installing HD classic chrome floating rotors and chroming my rims at the same time. Can't wait until it's all done - those chrome rims are going to look good .

I've also heard other people who had the same experience with the Lyndall pads. The squeak only went away temporarily. Looks like floating rotors are the only permanent solution.

M-1192A SWAPPING AND ALIGNING FIXED DUAL DISCS
July 17, 2006

Purpose
It has recently been determined that swapping and aligningthe front brake discs on motorcycles having fixed dual disc brakes can significantly reduce brake squeal.

Therefore, effective June 26, 2006, the front brake discs willbe swapped and aligned on all production motorcycles having fixed dual disc brakes. The running change moves theformer left side brake disc stamped P/N 44156-00 LEFT to the right side of the hub, and the former right side brake disc stamped P/N 44136-00 RIGHT to the left side of the hub. The vent holes are then aligned before the discs are fastened to the hub.

Also, in the interest of promoting customer satisfaction, Harley-Davidson will swap and align the front brake discs on affected motorcycles under warranty, but only when responding to customer complaints of excessive brake squeal.

Motorcycles Affected

All 2000-2006 model motorcycles, as well as those 2007 models built before June 26, 2006, having fixed dual disc brakes that exhibit excessive front brake squeal.
