Cool Front fairing removal - 2011 RGC

It was suggested I did not bury my photos in other threads. So creating a few threads with what I have done:

Tools needed: a 1/2 wrench, T25 screw tip. Install fluid optional

Remove turn signals

Remove the 6 screws inside the fairing, remove the fairing by slightly pull out and up to take it off the hooks... unplug the headlight harness (push on both sides of the plug and it will come off easy).

If you are doing this alone, best to put a thick towel or something to cover your front fender...

Once you unplug the headlights put the fairing down on a nice piece of cloth (using a car cover in this case).

Green tabs that folks told me about to remove the headlight. But first the black trim around the headlights needs to be removed. Just use one of those flat nylon bars to push on the tabs and the trim will come out.

A lot of debate on taking the light housing out or not... for a newbie I recommend you do it, if only to learn how the fairing mounts to the hooks. Easier to do without the headlight in place. Plus you get an idea on how to replace light bulbs in the future (for 2011 you do not need to remove the fairing to get to the light bulbs, only remove the black trim and pull out the housing with the headlights).

Ready for when it is time to reinstall it...

[/QUOTE]

Install as they say is... snap crackle and pop!

Fairing back in place, notice the two hooks that the fairing rests on.

Installing this back without removing the headlights, must be a pita to do....

There are six torx bolts, two longer than the others... the longer bolts go in the bottom of the fairing. Easy on putting all the bolts back. Do not overtighten. You really do not want the fairing tabs that hold the bolts to snap.

Hope this helps a newbie on the first time they take out the fairing. Cheers!

great post, but small correction, you don't need to remove the fairing to change headlights on the 2010 either....

Great information, thanks...I have the manual so I could look it up but forgive me for being lazy and not doing so....if you are just removing the black trim do you just pry it off carefully from the outside?

After the first couple of times I've gotten it figured it out so that I don't even bother with the headlights anymore. The most important step though is to cover that front fender!!

yeah, i bought a set of nylon pry bars from harbor freight to keep from scratching the fairing. some folks just tape up the end of a screwdriver. i figured it was less than $5 so good to have around.
