just completed mine.. seems fine..but mine wasnt bad to begin with.. just didnt want to have to do it during summer riding.. the how 2 was great.. seems to shift alittle easier now.. the stock set up seemed cheeply made.. my bike wasnt making all that noise but there were some signs of wear.. not bad though.. hope the S/E holds up.. after some riding on it..I may do my softail it has nearly 20 K on it..
here are a few picts of my parts..it might be hard to see the wear in these picts.. but the wear is there..but it really could have run longer..this is @ 11K miles..
I used the hd formuls + oil .. the 1st change out.. after the 2nd oil & filter change.. 5K miles or so..I have used lucas syn. oil in my engines,, works well.. so i use it in the primery to.. I dont think the lube had much to do with it.. as mine didnt look to bad.. its the design of the stock set up.. not enough spring pressure on the sprocket..
this was a good how 2.. thanks..I used to do the same type of how 2s on a big dog forum.. but my harly rairly needs much work..just regular service...

Well I finally got time to do mine Sat with my son. Had ordered parts from Lakeshore HD and saved.
Thanks again to the OP for doing such a great write up on this.
My wear was the same on the old components as Tx rider and Eric Moore's pictures. Same exact places.
It is cold here but no snow, so I got to ride it for about 45 minutes, my impressions-
Parts are way heavier duty than the old parts.
Gone is the clunk and bang from the starter.
Gone is the stutter on takeoff.
Gone is the marbles in a can sound at idle,
Gone is that annoying rattle at about 2k rpm
To me, it was well worth the time and money to do it myself. Totally different bike to me now.
I took pics but they are not needed, the OP did such a great job.
