And I am about to go back to dino. I have been using redline and love it but changing my oil twice a year at 60 bucks a pop is getting old. I like to change it every 3-4k but not at that price. The way i see it if you can add another oil change in there and it still be cheaper its better for the engine anyway. Just tired of the motorcycle racket the industry has going on.
Why Redline? Mobil 20w-50 was on sale last month at both AutoZone and Advanced Auto $7.50 Qt with a Fram 6022 filter for $6.95
(My bikes got 86,000 miles on it and still doesn't burn a drop b/w 5,000 mile changes.)
I can't afford Redline...
I used amsoil first, loud tick, then used Mobile, louder tick and tapping. Now that i found the source of the noise and shimmed up the rocker arm boxes the motor is so quiet however redline was the best as far as sound goes. It is as quiet as running dino, and my experience is that dino oil makes for a quiet motor, unless your running redline. But like i said its too expensive.

So it is true that Redline is quieter? I'd heard that before. I installed Gear Drive cams this past January and after the motor warms, the ticking at idle is irritating. ( Particularly last week when we had that 80 degree Monday and I wore the half helmet.) So now I understand, at 3 or 4 changes a year @ $60, I'll wear the 3/4 helmet!
I wish I got that deal... I just put it in all 3 holes at $10 / qt ($70) + K&N Oil Filter $17
For a grand total of $87 for a do it yourself OIL CHANGE...
Makes me wanna BARF...
I do the Tranny and Primary every 10,000 miles and the oil every 5,000 miles...
So every 5,000 mile change it costs me $60 and every 10,000 miles it cost $90
HURTS...
Yep, V-Twin Mobil 20w-50. If they're not on sale Advanced Auto sends me flyers every other month for $10 off coupons if you spend $50 on anything in the store. Same Difference, $40 for oil and filter either way.

My VW recommends oil changes every 12,000km or 7200miles with synthetic. With synthetic oil you should be able to easily double the recommended oil change interval. Changing oil more frequently is just wasting money. The myth that frequent oil changes prolong the life of the engine is a myth left over from the days of old style mineral oils that had no stabilizing additives.
Just change it yourself. It takes all of 10 minutes.

Those additives do nothing to take the contaminates out of the oil. This is what does the damage. Its not that the oil breaks down that easily it just gets dirty.
