Default Saddle bag lid gaskets..

Have any of you been able to remove the gaskets on the lid of the saddle bag or tour pac cleanly so that you can re-use them. Bike is getting painted and I was hoping to salvage the gaskets, instead of buying another set from the stealership. Any thoughts??
Thanks.

3M makes a product for removing adhesive. I've used it before & it works. I would check the price of new ones. It might not be worth all the work to re-use them. If you can afford a new paint job why not finish the job & use new seals. just my 2 cents.

No! They are stuck down never to budge and will fight you to the death, every inch of the way! At least mine did. New ones from your local friendly dealer are not that expensive, compared with a good paint job.

Just had a new to me tour pack painted. They masked the gasket off. Looks great.

Just for the heck of it, might try a hair dryer on the paint side of the lid. Not a heat gun, too hot. Might loosen up the adhesive enough to work them off. I wouldnt tape them off. I want as few edges of paint lines as possible.

You're in for a lot of work removing/installing gaskets. When my bike was repainted in early '09, the saddlebag lid and tour pak lid gaskets were masked; the gaskets are pulled inward by the tape and the interior of the lids maksed as well to allow paint behind the gaskets--worked fined.
