I have an 2007 Ultra. I have a new set of SE255 cams installed on the cam plate ready to go. I am agonizing on which pushrod or pushrod/ cover to buy. Any opinion would be appreciated. What are you running? Are you happy with it? Thanks.
Have an 07 Ultra also.
I went with the SE tapered adjustables and have had no problems at all with them and quite happy with them. They come complete with covers and O rings. I,ve had them in there for the last two cam changes over the past year.
SE quick install here also....easy and was recomended by a local indy i trust also. I am sure other brands ar good also but these were easy to get close by at the dealer.
have S&S cams so went with their quick adjust pushrod kit (which includes their tube covers so you can install/adjust without removing the tank) ...they don't say to use Loctite so I didn't....rear cylinder exhaust loosened up on initial road test and I had to tow the bike home....re-adjusted all and used red Loctite on the threads and have been fine ever since (3k miles ago)....long story short, real tight, red Loctite on adjustables!
I used my stock pushrods. Pulled the tank anyway at time of big bore install. If you reuse them, you need rocker cover gaskets. Cheaper that way. My hd master tech did the same on his bike and has 31k on his bike. Also get to retain the stock pushrod tubes as well. Cost of new rods vs time to pull tank is up to you...
Reread oldskools post... the loosening of the nut is why my tech pulls the tanks... double labor on loose nut plus damage is well worth the ten minute tank pull... to each his own though....
I've got Smith Brothers, and one of my friends has the SE's. He's had no issues with the SE rods, but when you compare the Smith Brothers side by side, you can see and feel the difference. They do cost more and don't include new tubes, but they were worth it to me.
i went with andrews ez install and have used the standard screaning eagles, not the tapered ones. IMO no difference in quality. how many ways can you make a mousetrap?
