Default Cruise control problem!! Need some advice

For starters I have a 2005 Road king Classic i bought it used a couple months ago with 23000 miles. I am having problems with the cruise control. My cruise control just stopped working, and I have tried searching this topic with little help. The Amber light will come on but it will not set most of the time. Every now and then the cruise control will set and the light will turn green. It will stay at that speed for a few seconds, and then the bike takes off and accelerates up to approximately 87 mph. It will level out there. SOme friends followed me and they stated that my rear brake light didnt seem to come on at odd times. Any advice will be appreciated!! Thankyou very much!

If you haven't already, get yourself a shop manual. There is a procedure for resetting your cruise control which you may want to try first. Then I'd check the brake light and clutch switches, as either applying the brakes or pulling in the clutch will de-activate your cruise. Good luck, and enjoy your new (to you) Road King!

Try disconecting the throttle pullback cable on the neck of the bike. There is 2 plugs that connect into the cable. Just diconnect one of them and then try the cruise control again. This cable has gone out and been a problem on many bikes. If this fixes it so your Cruise works let me know I have an upgraded pull-back cable that I will sell to you cheap

The swich has to bridge between the swintch housing and the clamping section that the brake lever is attached. If either housing has come slight loose and move slightly apart the cruise will be come intermittent or not engage at all. It thinks you are putting on the front brake. This will also cause the tail light to stay on.
