Absolutely, seals crack and shrink as they get old, need replacement, and are a tempting ripoff for any business, dealer or indy. Had the EPA not upped the emissions ante with Federally mandated closed-loop EFI and throttle-by-wire (which the MM cannot support), every HD would still be running the MM EFI.
Sounds like a simple vacuum leak. Get a can of carb cleaner and spray it around where the guy you took it sprayed while the bike is running. The carb cleaner will find the leak if that's what it is.
Will do. Unfortunately, my schedule won't allow me to get to it until the weekend. I will let you guys know what I find. Thank you so much for your advice.
Do not return to that shop..as mentioned by others it is most likely a gasket or small air/vacuum leak. If it fixed itself for a few moments with just a spray it is probably a dried brittle gasket. get a parts book and service book, look at a page of the parts involved in that area...
M & M is reliable system but unfortunately many younger techs have never seen it and trash it because of their lack of knowledge. The replacement price scare is mostly because they have little knowledge.. System is rather simple to work on with standard tools...you can probably isolate the part/gasket using something like WD#40.
