Well, I'm getting my done right now...on the lift this week.
96 to 103 SE Big Bore Stage II w/SE254e's, V&H Pro Pipe H/O 2-1, SERT, Dyno...$3080.00...from Thunder Tower HD in Columbia, SC. I don't think that's out of line w/similar builds from other shops w/pipes, that I've seen. It's all being done at once, I've not upgraded any of it as of yet; so I'm not carrying pipes, A/C, or tuner over to this build.
Had mine done two months ago. My dealer charged 10 hours labor @ $75 hour = $750. Broke it down into (3) hours cams and (7) hours top end. The tune will be $225 when fully broken in. I supplied all the parts (pistons (SE flat tops), cams (54H), gaskets (all Cometics .030), bearings, clutch spring. With fully ported heads/radius'd valves/1.900 intakes/84 CC chambers/compression releases and bore-hone, I will have about $2000 into the build. Only 275 miles on it now but it is real crisp...
The 103 is your best bet for overall flexibility. You can find pistons and rings for it many, many ,many places, you have different types(domed, flat, forged cast, varying compressions) to choose from and can go oversize if the need arises. Unless you need that last bit of HP that 4ci gives, don't back yourself into that corner.
Mine cost 1680 plus tax. This included the new MAP. The cool thing was they said they didn't care what exhaust they put back on the bike. I gave them my choice. Runs great! never misses a beat.
well if you go with SE the jugs are going to be around 300.00
the pistons around 300.oo the cams around 300.oo when i had
my 103 done the SERT was around 500.00 I think and i cant
rember what the labor was so my guess is going to be around
2000 dollars give or take a few hundred
