I have the Bassani 4" megaphone slip-on mufflers with the 2" flow-through baffles on my '03 FLTRI. I have read some posts on this forum where guys want louder pipes, but I need a little less. I love the look of these mufflers and their deep rumble; I don't want to go back to my stock mufflers. Does anybody know how to drop some decibels without losing the rumble?
Check out the Bub7 Stealths. I just replaced my Monster Ovals with them because the MO's were starting to get too loud for me. What a real pleasant surprise. Just as deep and about 1.5 db lower.
...and Supertrapp Supermegs ( and the made for H-D version the "nightstick" )- these use a disc system to allow high flow with reduced high frequency noise. The muffler is tunable to enhance horsepower or torque depending on your needs.
Long racing pedigree all the way back to the H-D XR750 flat tracker.
why not modify the baffles or get baffles with a smaller hole than 2" ? effectively with a 2" baffle, you've got almost straight pipes. you could easily remove the baffles and weld a washer in place to reduce the size of the opening leaving you with most of the rumble and it would quiet your mufflers a bit depending on the size of hole. basanni might sell quieter baffles.
I have the Jackpot dyno tuned mufflers with the quiet baffle. After two other sets of pipes, these were exactly what I wanted. They have a deep rumble with the option of running with the quite insert installed or not. It takes about a minute to remove or install the insert depending on whether I'm in the mood for more sound or not. A few months and a few thousand miles have improved the tone even more.
save your money and take your stock mufflers and punch a one inch hole in both front and rear restriction petition. The tone is deeper and a little louder with in creased air flow, however not enough change to need a retune.
