I've been saying for several years that the laws are going to be changed or enforced more diligently on mufflers. (I think mostly thanks to the rice burners who take out their baffles in the hopes of sounding more like a HD, but only result in sounding loud and annoying) Looks like it is starting in New Hampshire, Denver and some other places. So are there any after market mufflers, with the EPA stamp, that are half way decent???

Due to rice burners? LOL. Yeah, HD owners don't believe in "loud pipes save lives." Too funny.
I'm interested to know what the "legal" pipes sound like too.
I don't need or rock straights, but I likie a deep rumble+thunder.

Agreed. I hear one overly loud jap bike for every 10 overly loud Harley's.
I own supertrapps. I can change the sound at will.
Mine do. I have the screaming eagles that are made by supertrapp. I think they look and sound great with the added benefit of being street legal so no issues with Leo down the road.

Here's what the law is in Illinois
Muffler
Muffler required. Not modified to amplify or increase noise above that emitted by muffler originally installed (Sec. 902-101).
Maximum Sound Level
Maximum allowable A-weighted sound levels based on measurements taken at a distance of 50 feet (Sec. 902.122): 80-82dBA at less than 35mph; 86dBA at more than 35mph.
With all of the noise ordinances that seem to be popping up I thought we would see more mufflers like the Peacemakers and the Hushers that allow you to hit a button to open and close a flap in the muffler. When it's closed it sound close to stock and open sounds like most other open mufflers.
Anyone have any experience with either of these?
The Hushers are close to $1000.00 and the Peacemakers were around $600.00 last time I checked.
I love my Screaming Eagle pipes; they sound great. When I got them I was really worried that my bike was going to sound like a sewing machine because of the 80Db stamp, but I was pleasantly surprised. they have a nice deep tone and they're legal! I was tired of my Vance and Hines pipes; which are tame by most standards but they just wore on me. I think Super Trap makes some of the HD pipes; check them out too. I picked my Sceaming Eagles up from a fellow forum member for $175
