Default words from a trusted vendor

From: FastAire0 (Original Message) Sent: 10/25/2006 1:14 AM
Sunday, I got tapped in the rear by a car at a redlight ( I wasnt hurt) and since I also have to leave this week for Fla, I dropped the bike off for a wreck estimate & warranty work. The bike is pure stock.

I bought the bike 2 months & 2500 miles ago...Just for those that need to know ( save the RUB comments ).... Ive been riding 35 yrs, owned 14 HDs, owned 2 Bike Shops, was a HD Serv Writer... you get the idea.

The Owners and Serv Mgr both know me well so they know Im not just bitching about nothing... It will be interesting to see what Im told. I already know some of the MoCo standard answers, I waiting to see what will be done. I know its a HD and some may just accept this, but for $20,000 it should be better.

Heres the exact list I gave them when I dropped the bike off.

Motor:<o></o>

<o></o>

- Starter clunk at initial engagement

<o></o>

- Motor has a rpm related vibration from 2500 – 3000 rpm. The floorboards, handlebars, fairing and tank all vibrate at the same frequency. The rpm range is right in where the highway speed running range is. On an extended ride, the vibration causes my feet to tingle and hands will go numb and has shaken the rear mirrors so bad I couldn’t see out of them.

<o></o>

- Motor runs very lean & often pings even with 91 octane. When it was 85+ outside, I had to add octane booster to stop the pinging. Went to a cooler range plug with no change. If it is very hot, nothing stops the pinging.

<o></o>

- Motor has died several times at a stoplight while idling, often difficult to restart. Has to be very hot to duplicate. Often the idle or low speed mph is erratic and feels like its running on one cylinder at times

<o></o>

- Valve noise on a hot motor is higher than I think it should be. Louder than my 98 EVO w/ 60,000 miles on it.

<o></o>

Transmission<o></o>

<o></o>

- 5th Gear Trans whine – very loud at 2100 – 2500 rpm – happens with hot or cold motor. It is most noticeable when shifting into 5th at 50 mph. 1st gear whines a little but not as bad as 5th. Ive used HD Formula, HD Syn3 and it now has Redline Shockproof Heavy in it but it still howls. Other riders can hear it when riding next to me. This is not a slight whine.

<o></o>

- Shifting is tight when cold & has a loud “clunk” into 1st or 2nd until it warms up well.

<o></o>

- Sometimes, when coasting to a stop, the trans will not shift down correctly, takes several attempts to find the lower gear, and is most common when coming off the freeway to a stop. Clutch has been adjusted internally 2 times but does not correct it. Feels like the pawl is not catching the shifter barrel.

<o></o>

Primary<o></o>

<o></o>

- Compensator (?) or a lower primary rattle at 2200-2600 rpms or when pulling hills. Has a “marbles in a can” sound. Does it hot or cold. Sounds like the Compensator Nut is slightly loose, bottomed out or maybe the compensator spring is weak. Its annoying as hell.

Wheels

Front rotors are installed backwards... left on the right & right on the left

Must be a sunday thing 'cause this past sunday I was stopped, paying the toll on the Walt Whitman Bridge (Philadelphia) and was struck in the rear by some A-Hole! Just a scrape to the bike but I feel like I have a target on my bike since I also got into a major accident in April that landed me in the hospital for a month. That time a woman made an abrupt left hand turn in front of me. BTW, that was also on a Sunday!!!!!

I had my 06 SG in for 10000 service and the brakes have always been noise, the dealer flipped my rotors and noise gone, he said this was a service note from Harley???

Why do you keep posting this trash ? do you comb the net trying to find gossip with so called problems with harleys ?
Put some pipes on the bike and you will not hear the tranny , there is nothing wrong with it .

Hey Towpro, The only trash is what comes out of this guys mouth. Don't pay any attention to him, nobody else here does. Chances are nobody anywhere does.

my bike had a noticable vibration about 1800 rpm's. it is an 06 Road Glide. took it in for an oil leak, they said the vibration was caused by a bad motor mount. they had a string of them come in.
