I have a 2002, 95", Ultra Classic that is nearing the dreaded 40K mile mark. Gonna have to go gear driven cams. I do quite a bit of touring two up and loaded, so I want a gear drive set that really delivers the mail from 2,000 to 4,000 RPM. I would like some feedback from anyone that has installed a set that feels they are getting the performance they were looking for bottom end. Feedback with "experience" will be appreciated.
Not exactly the same motor as my '96 EVO but at 32,000 I went with an Andrews 23, adjustable pushrods, HD lifters and new cam bearing. Runs stronger and pulled a trailer with 2 up to Laconia 2 weeks ago in the heat.
Take a look here and check around before making your choice as the wrong cam selection can be worse than you have now and not give you the grunt in the area where you are looking for it. Any time modifications are made, they must work with other modifications that have been or will be done to maximize the total package.Give the cams some thought as to what else you may do in the future for you to make an appropriate choice.
I too went with the Andrews 23 CAM and Adjustable pushrods. I also had a Power Commander installed. My torque at 2500 to 3500 rpm rocks. The Air Intake and exhaust are also important components of gaining performance increase.
