Saw a $36,000 CVO roadglide at the dealer a couple of weeks ago with the "standard" hinges. It's just hard to believe when you see those on a CVO bike.
Glad you liked them. Have 'em on my Ultra. I thought HD should have this hinge as an standard item for the RGU's, Ultra's and CVO's. Don't think HD should rob $50 off on every one of us to make huge profit.
Anyways, If others have 2nd thoughts of those awesome hinges...Please don't. IMO, It's must have on your list.
You can screw up doing this install if you're not really careful. (and that's all I'm sayin') There are old threads here with different tips on how to get the old hinges off, probably be worth your time to read them.
Absolutely, Mike. They are an easy install, but it's easy to make a mistake that can be very expensive! I just about screwed up my last tour-pak by using a dull drill bit; the heat from grinding the drill bit through the rivets actually melted the ABS plastic of the tour-pak. Fortunately, I saved it, but another second or two and I would have made a mess of it.
So for this install, I bought two new drill bits, and the install was easy. It's a great cosmetic improvement over the stock hinges!

Agreed, with one exception, the Road Glide Ultra. That fugly thing deserves those fugly hinges! LOL!
Holding a wet rag on the other side of the tour pak will collect the heat and lessen any possibilty of melting. Just make sure ya stop the drill before it gets the whole way through your hand. Hate cleaning blood off the tour pak.
I just paid $650 for a chopped tourpak, another $180 for the backrest pad and another $150 for the mount.. You'd think for $1000 Harley would INCLUDE the good hinges on the tourpack... THIS is why I HATE the MoCo... Nickel and dime you to death on these bikes...
