I'm leaving my 2011 FLTRX 103 stock. It will be my first HD that I have not done mods on. Mine runs great & don't care how it sounds & if it runs hot, as long as it doesn'r ping. I'll do a re-map if it does. That's why I have the EXT. WARRANTY!!! It just seems to me that when you do any type of mods to these EFI engines & need tuners or whatever you call them,there seems to be problems. I'm sure guys out there have done mods & have no problems. But for me I'm into riding these days & not screwing around with some tuner. Of course that's my take on this.
I am starting to feel the same way as far as leaving the bike more or less stock! I ordered new pipes when i got the new bike, wanted to go a different route, so i ordered the V&H dresser dual head pipes along with the V&h monster oval mufflers. I'm thinkin about cancelling that order and stickin with the stock exhaust setup, putting a SE heavy breahter on the new bike along with the ecm reflash from the dealer.
Just to chime in here. I feel the same way about leaving it stock. Just picked up a 2010 Limited and the only mod I have done to the motor was to remove the cat and add V & H Monster Ovals. The bike runs strong even pulling a small Cyclemate 100 trailer. I still have my 06 in my sig that my son rides and while that thing runs extremely strong and is a blast to ride. I just do not want to deal with the issues that come up with the "chase for the HP game" I know several will also chime in about the correct tune, correct selection of parts that "compliment each other" and so on. I have been chasing pinging, and mileage issues with having the bike tuned a couple of times. Still have a ping at certain times and mileage in the mid to low 30's. Mileage may be directly associated with a "wrist turning problem that I seem to have". The point I am agreeing to is these new 103's run great and I am happy to leave it where it is at. Just wanted to get the heat out with removing the cat and like to looks of the Monster Ovals.
I was going to leave my 96 inch 011 SG stock also but my wife said the heat from the cat was excessive. Those things run about 2000 degrees. Going to fuel moto head pipe, jackpots, screaming eagle air filter and pcv. Bike will be better.
I feel the same way about all the engine mods. 99% of the people I know whose bikes are kept stock (engine) have no issues with reliability or performance. Start adding tuners and cams etc and the woes begin. I know there are other who disagree but my 96 incher runs absolutely beautifully. K&N filter, rinehart slip ons. That's it, not even a Stage 1 flash. Bike runs superbly after 30K miles.
Changed the "bad juju" 103" SG mostly back to stock today for the trade in. I had the Jackpot (fuel moto) headpipe, Rinehart 3.5" slip ons, SE heavy breather, and a power commander 5 downloaded with a map from Fuel moto. I left the heavy breather on the bike, put the stock mufflers back on the bike along with the stock headpipe, the bike already had the ecm reflashed from the dealer, and i also took the power commander off. My thoughts as i was driving it to the dealership was " this thing has more snap and low end mostly stock then it had with all the other stuff on!" How could this be? Basically i was more impressed with the mostly stock setup, the sound wasn't there because the "cat" headpipe and stock mufflers were back on but the performance was much better imo! Any thoughts?
I have argued on here plenty of times tht the stage 1 down load is pretty darn good. I will say I called dyno jet a while back and asked them about a download for a already stage 1 down load and they said they had not actually had their hands on a new bike that had the factory stage 1 down load but suggest a down load that I could try. I thought this was bs because they did not know that the stage 1 download does in fact richen the stock map. My guess is you were running rich and that is why it felt peppier with the dj removed.
More back pressure, more torque. We generally modify these things for the top end power.
Which is why I didn't modify mine, I rarely get above 4,000 rpm.
I'm no expert but the ECM being flashed for one tune and the Power Commander be loaded with a map for a stock ECM may have put them in conflict with each other and threw the tune off.

When i bought the pc5 and the jackpot headpipe from fuel moto, i talked to Keith and told him i had the bike flashed at the dealership and what slip ons i was using. From what i understand the stage 1 download doesnt do anything with the fuel only timing. This according to the folks at fuel moto.

Yes dyno jet thought the same thing but stage 1 hd download does add fuel.
