When I bought my bike in '07 I put a Fuel Pak on it, along with Rush slipons w/2" baffles, and a Big Sucker air cleaner. The FP ran like crap from day one- it had an off-idle stumble and the engine developed horrendous engine ping between 2500 & 3500 rpm, even at steady state cruise on flat highway. V&H tech support could never diagnose the off-idle stumble, even after trying several different maps. They couldn't get the pinging out either, and finally just told me that "all Harleys ping like that." What??? I thought the FP's purpose in life was to do away with pinging...???!!! Then they tell me that the FP does nothing to enrich the mixture at idle, where my bike got its hottest. Nice.
The other crap (loud mufflers, Big Sucker a/c) did nothing for power, so I sold the Fuel Pak and the Big Sucker, put the stock air cleaner back in, put 1.5" baffles in the Rush slipons to quell the headache inducing noise, bought a set of Ied's (and later, Xied's) from Nightrider and after 18,000 miles I've never looked back. The bike has more power, the off-idle stumble and incessant pinging have miraculously disappeared, and mileage improved. Not to mention since Xied's richen the mix at idle the bike runs cooler. With zero problems, a fatter wallet, and stock reliability, life is good.
