The limited is nice on a few of the options it includes, but If I had the chance to do it again I would of gone for the Ultra Classic still. I wanted solid black with all the fender bumpers and bag rails. I live in south Texas so I dont need heated hand grips. The 103 is nice but not necessary, I actually had a 1700cc Vulcan and the I actually learned to not like that it had so much power that it pulled like a train. Thats actually what made me move to a Harley, Comfort touring with a smooth acceleration even at full throttle.

Hah that makes me sound old. Im only 29.

Anyways the Limited looked too modern streamlined and the Ultra Classic looks classic to me. Id rather spend the $1400 difference to make a few months worth of payments.

Your preference for the Ultra or the Limited is a matter of choice. Its a personal preference. The OP asked if it was worth the extra money. The answer is simple - yes, do the math.

When I bought my Limited it was about $2700 more than the Ultra. I'm going to guess at the value of these items if you had to buy them after you bought an Ultra. These are guesses:

103 engine upgrade - $2000?
ABS brakes - $1200?
Chrome wheels - $2000?
Oil cooler - $300? (With installation)
Titanium gauges - $900?
Heated grips - $500? (With installation)
Luggage rack - $100?
Extra outlet - $40?
Different style details - Can't price.

That's about $7000 worth of stuff. So, if you want them its worth the extra money. If you don't want those things its probably not worth it.

Looked at both bikes. Liked both bikes. Both came in Black. For me I wanted something a little different than my '05 Ultra. Bought the Limited. For a couple extra dollars it was worth it for me. The more I ride it, the more I'm glad I got it.

Thank you for figuring that out or me. I've been wanting to do that but couldn't get prices on a few things. I feel A LOT better about my buy now. Again, thank You.

Additionally to ABS is now a must. Also if you look at ebay or Craigs list you can get a near new limited for almost the cost of a Ultra if you have the patience to wait. I got a 2011 with 82 miles on it. The circumstances just played out perfect.
76 miles on mine, with pipes, AC, PC5, less than a new Ultra

with the basics on it (pipes, AC, PC5) the 103 is pretty awesome to me.
the colors....not so much, the same goes for the Screamin Eagle bikes painted like fishing lures...not a disco ball kind of person.

mine was so cheap, i can live with the color.
most people who see it, say is that a NEW bike, because the root beer changes colors from dirty to clean, dark to day.

yeah, the chrome rims are a NO BRAINER once you do the spokes on a FL. took me hours last time to do the spokes on a road king.

FWIW, i just did a post on a tour pack light, that is AWESOME.

the heated handgrips increase my "enjoyability" of going for a late night ice cream run. around here, it gets HOT during the day in spring and fall, so you can leave sweating in a t shirt at 3 pm, and be freezin at 10pm

and the oil cooler should make a difference in the summer, as to what it does, the oil is the ONLY cooling medium, and the oil bag runs HOT (on my softail, it was ~270 degrees) so even on a HOT day, an oil cooler would have been great. it has a thermostat in it (at least the good ones do, so assume it does) FWIW, this is a debated item on most forums, but I don't see how it can HURT. esp on new EPA lean bikes.

given the whole list and price breakdown, and the fact that all of us have added at least one of these items onto a past bike, it's a no brainer.

i would rather ride a Limited to a burger joint, than ride a base Ultra to a steak house. lifes just more fun on a 103

what does the price diff come out to monthly? $20?

We've collectively figured you're only paying $400 (including labor) for the 103 upgrade considering all the extras that come with the limited, including chrome wheels, luggage rack (love it), heated grips (love it) upgraded oil cooler, security, ABS, automatic compression releases, tour pack 12v socket, titanium accent guages, etc. By the way, a simple cam & tuner upgrade really brings the 103 alive.

For most years it is mostly a matter of taste with the extra accessories. For 2011 though, the Limited is the only one available with the 103 motor and probably worth the difference for that alone. I'd bet in 2012 all touring bikes have the 103 so it will be back to accessories being the big difference.

I'm really disillusioned with my ABS. Everybody says it's worth it but my only experience is a complete loss of stopping power from my rear every time I get into some loose stuff (regular brakes would be a lot better). What's worse, the most I ever needed ABS was on my recent 3800 mile tour, day after day in pouring rain and ridiculously high winds across the great plains from Wyoming all the way home to Alabama, and the goddam ABS light came on. After repairing my flat rear tire, a dealer in Nebraska informed me the ABS was inoperable and needed to be repaired. When you need it most it's not there for you. Now I'm out of warranty and have to shell out EVEN MORE cash to get it fixed. Personally I wish I'd saved the money.
