This could save you some serious coin - ask seller if cam tensioners were ever replaced or upgraded also ask if cam bearings were changed over to Torrington bearings. I know because cam bearings failed on my 2004 RKC at just under 30k and luckily I caught it in time to avoid complete motor detonation. Hate to disagree w/ Leicafish but I would go to Hydraulic Cam Tensioner kit sold by HD (which they should be offering free to TC88 owners).
As far as price goes 11k sounds O.K. but I don't know particulars of the bike, added chrome, upgrades, etc... Will let you know my buddy just recently bought a 2010 RKC for around $13,600 off e-bay and it was completely stock and in good condition. Some good deals can be found if your patient and my advice is don't get married to the first one you see!! My
Get a Road King Police... I've found 2009 RK Police bikes in South Florida with 25k miles for $11,500.. New frame, 103" engine, oil cooler, etc.. It sounds VERY high to me... 40,000 miles is a lot.. And maybe not a ton, but if you love it and ride it like we do, you'll have 60,000 in no time, then things start to go..
I bought an 2008 FLH with 14K in October 09 for $12,500. If possible have cash in hand and/or agreement with bank if financing so you can negotiate on the spot. Lots of people who need to sell ... cash talks!
Hey, there is another option, trade your Sporty for a brand new RK. By the time they price out your trade and finance you on the new bike, the monthly draw on cash flow may be a wash. At least i think you owe it to yourself to know what the numbers would be if you looked at it. You don't have to worry about any cam tensioners, or questions about how it was riden or maintained. And, you get all the latest in technology, especially the new frame.
Just saying, you should at least know what the numbers would be......
Yep RK Police is the best bet. 12k will get you one with half the mileage, 103" and all the other stuff mentioned in the previous post.
I shipped mine from Miami to Phoenix because of the deal.
