Just lately my 09 Ultra has started making what sounds like tire noise when turning. Happens when turning either way but louder on a left turn. I checked the tire pressure and added a few pounds to both front and rear as both were a little low but still have the noise. Both tires appear to be wearing evenly. About 7K on the front and 17K on the rear. I looked in the manual for bearing service intervals but no info on re-packing them so I guess they're sealed?. Bike has 27K on it so I don't think the bearings should be an issue anyway.
It's more than likely the Dunlop tires. Are you running the 408F and 407 rear? My 09 made a loud whining noise laid over in a curve. I ran 40 PSI in both tires riding solo. 42 in rear two up! The 09's had a tire recall on the 407F. Your's is probably the 408F now. Your wheel bearings should be ok unless you have damaged them with a power washer. I recently replaced my rear tire with an American Elite. I like it better than the 407 Rear. The front 408F still whines, but not as bad as the 407F did.
I noticed the same thing on my 2010 limited from the day I got it. The dealer has convinced me it is the tires. We have 15,000 miles on mine and am planing a long ride this summer. Maybe we will switch brands and find out if this in fact the cause.
The only time I had noise like you describe is when the belt is too tight.
Twice, after tire changes, the belt was adjusted too tight. Do it myself everytime now.
Check belt tension (more of a squeal than a whine, it will make noise when either too tight or too loose) and tire cupping (more of a whine than a squeal).
Yup. Been there done that going on 3 times now. Was real bad on the front tire, not so bad on the rear, and now I am starting to hear it again on the front, which I have about 12k on. Getting 17k out of a tire is actually pretty good, so I would inspect that rear tire; bet that is the source of the noise.
