Yea. The SB calls for the grease to water proof it, but I doubt that does much for the vibration. A simple connector like that should not wear out. That is just dumb. As long as it is not getting any moisture in there, it should last forever.

Sorry I haven't responded sooner. Thanks for the update. I agree about the connector. I think they should hardwire the throttle body wiring and run it up to the main wiring harness and put the plug in a place where it won't vibrate as much or get wet. I don't recall any other plugs having the fretting problem.

Just returned from 3800 mile ride over 13 days. Bike went into limp mode 9 times on trip, but only after riding hard and in the heat, and only after killing engine when stopping for gas or food. Had to let it sit a while, cool off and it would re-set itself. Took it to 2 dealers during trip and neither could replicate issue. At third dealer now and still unable to replicate. Throws several codes each time. This is an '09 Ultra Classic under extended warranty. Appreciate any thoughts that I might share with third dealer's service techs. Thanks!

Default Same problem, Today

I have a 2008 Ultra Glide Classic. Went for a ride and stopped at the dealer today for my 'free' cup of coffee and when I left I got about 2 blocks away and got the dreaded 'Limp Mode' problem. It had happened about a month ago but I was able to reset it. Made it back to the dealer and they immediately knew what the problem was and replaced the pins in the Deutsch connector behind the throttle body and a couple of hours later I was back on the road. Thank goodness for the extended warranty but still had to pop for the $50 deductible. One would think that being that this problem is so well documented that the dealer would eat the cost of repairing this manufacturer induced fault. Don't think that I like this 'fly-by-wire' technology too much.

Mine has never done it while riding, only after kill engine and almost always when weather is pretty warm and I've been riding fairly hard. Earlier in this forum, someone mentioned this issue in connection with using cruise control. I never thought of that, but when riding in those conditions I often use CC. I wonder if there's a connection?

What bothers me is your dealer could not figure out what could be the problem when you explained what was happening. Your not the first person to ride into their shop with this issue. The MOCO should have recall on this problem. I hope they do it before someone is seriously hurt or killed.

my bike did this last week while I was in Tennessee for vacation. It was so bad i lost all throttle completely. Had to have it towed to H-D shop. It had the mechanic and H-D Corp. stumped. They replaced everything on my bike as far as fuel delivery. Still, no dice. After eleven hours they found two seperate wires that run under the gas tank, a purple wire and a brown wire that was faulty from the factory. They installed two jumper wires to make sure and sure enough... they replaced these two wires and now runs great!!!!

Riding today in 82 degree weather. In cruise control going 68 mph when it started slowing down. I thought the cruise control had kicked out but twisting the throttle didn't do ****. I finally was limping along at 12 mph with the throttle wide open not daring to shut it down in the middle of nowhere. I turned on the flashers and rode like that for 25 miles before turning into a Harley shop I knew was ahead. I shut it down and restarted it and it was fine.??????? I talked to the service dude who told me they could get to it tomorrow but that did me no good. I proceeded to ride home which was another 55 miles with no issue. Now I don't trust the f.....er and I really don't know what to do. I have the FM 107 and PC-V and I'm sure the dealer will blame the power commander which I don't believe is the issue after reading the responses here.

After having my problem I began searching the archives for limp mode issues and this problem is huge. Now I'm getting pissed as people could get hurt and Harley does nothing about it. What a load of horse apples!
