Default Electra Glide vs. Road Glide

In 04 the Road Glide went from black powdercoat to silver powdercoat. Just curious if this was a dealbreaker for anyone considering an Electra Glide versus a Road Glide, either way. Or was the kind of fairing more important? (I'm told the Road Glide is more stable, but only at decidedly illegal speeds.) Or was it the tourpak? The EG's superaccurate temperature gauge? Just curious.
Sorry if this thread has been done before.

I've had an EGC (black motor), a RG (02 - black motor), and when it came time for another..... you guessed it.... RG - Silver Motor! RG difference is so much more than the blk/slvr difference, for me that it was a no brainer.

Forget the motor color... Ride the bikes and see what ya like!

Elsewhere you'll see "removing wax from black engine" The 2 are comparably priced enough to base your decision on how you'll use it. An Electra-Glide is just as competent for most tourers as a Roadie, but looks more traditional therefore parking outside a roadhouse, it gets the nod. A roadie has considerably less bling, ride it as long as you want, power-wash any grime off and dry w/compressed air. Maybe a little spray detailer on painted surfaces and you're done! An FLH, much more chrome to spitshine, wax overspray not only on the engine, the rubber bumpers on the fenders are also something that's time-consuming. Bottom line, lots of miles: Roadie. Admirable stares by the general public: FLHT/C/U. Somewhere between is the perfect balance.

I don't know about less bling on a RG or not taking time to detail it properly and I get loads of compliments on mine so you really shouldn't put all of them in the same class.

Hell, I was the first winner of the BOTM contest with my silver engine. I think it's easier to customize a roadglide than it is an electraglide. Nothing cooler than a RG with a chopped windshield. Just makes it look mean.

It's black engines for me all the way .. the silver engines ( with all due respect to you silver engine guys/gals ) reminds me of the old "standard" models. One of my buddies bought a softtail standard a few years ago and they had stainless steel covers and a silver engine. He didn't buy the Softtail Custom (which had the black engine and chrome covers) cause it was a bit more money. Eventually he spent a ton of money on changing out all the SS parts to chrome and spent more than the ST Custom would have cost. Live and learn!! Silver engine or Black engine .. makes no difference, it's still a Harley and an awesome bike.
