Hi, New to the forum. I just bought a 2012 Ultra Limited and tried plugging my satellite radio into the cig lighter for power and for some reason it blows the fuse when i turn on the ignition. I know in the manual it says not to use it, but i know people who do with no trouble. I can plug my gps into it and it works fine. Any ideas on what could be causing the fuse to blow when i turn on the ignition. The cig lighter seems to work fine. Going through a lot of fuses trying to figure this out.
I had a fuse blow on my recent trip when I plugged mine in to the lighter. But I did it when I had the heated grips on. Replaced the fuse , turned off grips , no more problem. Just a thought.
Yea, I thought of that too since they are on the same fuse, but my bike was parked in the garage when i was trying to hook the radio up so i didn't have the heated grips on. I'm wondering if it could be a bad outlet?
more than likely not a "bad outlet" since you say that you can plug in your gps and the lighter works...
does this only occur when starting or when you move the switch to ignition?
does it happen if you already have the switch in that position and then plug in?
strange issue.
If I have the ignition on and then plug in the radio it's ok, when i shut off the ignition and then turn it back on while the radio is still plugged in, that's when it blows the fuse. It doesn't make sense to me. I'm thinkin something is grounding out when i turn the ignition back on.
I have the same problem with my 2010 Electra Glide FLHTC, my Sat radio works for a day or two then blows the fuse, I was thinking of moving from a 15 amp to a 20 amp fuse. Would moving up 5 amps hurt the electrical system? Anything else to check
