Default Flat front tire something strange...

So tonight after we got home from work my wife I decided to hop on the bike and go get a burger. Left the house and all was fine rode from home about an hour up the road ( the long way) to Fenwick DE to Smitty Mcgees. Parked the bike right out the front door and went in to eat. Came out about an hour later got n the bike and as I was leaving the parking lot something in the front felt a little strange. I went about a mile down Rt 54 and pulled into a side road as I made the turn it felt mushy so I told my wife we are gonna have to limp down coastal highway in Ocean City to the wawa. I pulled up to the air tank and when I looked at my front tire I saw my valve stem cap was missing. When I put the gauge on the tire it did not register I filled the tire with air and all seemed ok. We started making our way home through Ocean City. Once I got on the other side of Berlin it started to feel strange again. Now I was about 15 miles from home and no gas station on the way so I limped her home. We made it back to our driveway but if I had anther mile to go I don't think we would have made it... I pulled out th air tank and filled the tire again I heard air leaking out. It is coming out of the valve stem as fast a it went in.

What would have caused his to happen out of nowhere? Everything was fine when I parked the bike and went in to eat came out and it is all messed up. I know I just need to go to the hd shop and get a new valve stem but just wondering if this has ever happen to anyone before and what the heck caused this to happen.
Thanks
Joe

is the valve stem screwed all way in?

did some kid jam a twig in there.

turn the wheel to the 12 oclock position,
and unscrew the valve core, see if anything drops out, replace valve core.

pressure up, wait and re check pressure

I know it cant always be so, but I try and park my bike where I can keep an eye on it. Nowa days you cant let your guard down even in familiar territory.

I don't mean to be a smart azz (but some people may take it that way) but:

1) When you were leaving the parking lot something in the front felt a little strange. Screw it, let's ride

2) Then you continued on and went about a mile down and pulled into a side road as you made the turn it felt mushy Screw it, let's ride

3) So you told my wife y'all were gonna have to limp down coastal highway in Ocean City to the wawa. Screw it, let's ride

4) Then when you finally pulled up to the air tank you decided to look at your front tire???

Kinda have to agree with this.

Lots of things can cause a tire to have lower than normal air pressure.
Someone jacking with it, valve stem leaking a little, etc.

But when you continue to ride on a "low" tire, you are 100% sure to cause even more damage.

Sounds to me like someone loosened your tire valve core, to allow the air to bleed out slowly undetected, until it might be too late.

That's happened to me in my truck. Thought someone slashed my tires, but just took out the cores. Still very inconvenient. Had to get some more from home, but at least didn't have to buy new tires like I initially thought. Also thought I had pissed someone off, but looked around and several other cars all flat too. Dang kids.
