Hilarious, no difference between a 96 and a 103 but a huge difference between a 103 and a 107, too funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why do people look at Harley's as monetary investments? You will never get the money back for what you put into it...JMO

I always looked at motorcycles as a "soul" satisfying investment. Been worth every penny to me !!

Have an 09 UC. Did the stage II upgrade to 103 with 255 cams. Cost was around $1500 from the dealer. I am sure you can beat this at an indy.. The difference is dramatic regarding "usable" power... Without the cams, just switching to 103 would have been a waste of money. Unless you can justify the big hit when selling your bike just do the upgrade instead of buying a stock 103

Exactly. What are you looking to do, go out and beat rice rockets or tour. If you're not burning down the drag strip a 1/4 mile at a time, I'd keep what you have. Whats a couple of horsepower? You bought a Caddy not a Top Fuel dragster.

do the 2010 models have cats in them if they dont then keep
it. Will you lose 2000.00 or betterin the trade if you will then build a

I just got out of my 2010 Ultra for $100 less than I paid for it a year ago. Picking up a 2012 Street Glide. Haven't rode a 103" yet so can't say if there is a big difference. In all honesty the 103" didn't really play into my decision so any added power will be a plus.

IMO , if your happy with your bike and its only about the 103 vs the 96, save your $ and put 1000 -2000 into the engine .

But if your looking for a different model, ABS etc then the 2011 or 2012 with the 103 and ABS etc are great bikes and probably worth the $.

I was riding a 05 fatboy with a 95 Stage 2 engine and my box stock FLTRX with 103 is easily as fast for usable tq, now with a Stage 1 on the 103, A/C , complete exhaust (no cat) and a Power Vision it is stronger than my 95 was and gets better mileage . But I would not have taken the hit to change just for the engine, I wanted a Touring Bike and I wanted ABS so it was worth it to me.

A couple bucks into your 96 will wake it the f*$k up. Do the obligatory "Stage 1" kit and if that's not enough toss in a set of cams.

The guys here are right, there isn't much difference between a 96 and a 103 if both are bone stock. Yeah, on paper there is a difference but in reality you'll hardly be able to feel the power difference. If you're upgrading simply to get more power save yourself a crap ton of money and just work on your 96.

For a "Stage 1" upgrade:
Put on a pipe (FuelMoto, Fullsac, S&S, whatever), a free flowing K&N style filter (BigSucker, FuelMoto, SE, doesn't really matter), a set of slip ons (pick out what you think look and sound cool) and a tuning device (PC-V, SEPST, TTS, FuelPak, whatever). A dyno tune will help.

If that's not enough toss in a set of cams. In your application a TW 6-6, SE 255, Andrews 48 etc would work just peachy. A hundred different guys here will give you a hundred different answers on what cams to get. A full "Stage 1" and a dyno tune are more or less mandatory for a cam swap.

FWIW you can go to FuelMoto's website and they'll sell you a complete, proven in the real world, kit. There are a bunch of other websites that will do the same.

If money is not an object here FuelMoto sells a killer 107 kit that will blow your hair back. The difference from 96 - 103 isn't much but going to a 107 is huge. Reasons being: There's a lot more to a "107" kit than a few cubic inches. You'll go to 10.5:1 compression with a Wood 555 cam, air cleaner, pipes, and mufflers or in plain English 68hp to 106hp give or take. If that isn't enough for you get a Honda CBR1000RR.

I don't know about Oregon, but there are two HD shops here locally that will do a "Big Bore Upgrade" to take your 96 to 103ci.
They bore your existing jugs, new pistons, new cams, re-map = $700. Price includes a 1 year warranty on parts & labor.

If 103 is what you want, this would seem to be a better (cheaper) option than getting rid of your existing bike.

i was contemplating the same things. 2010 SG to a 2012 w/103. Why? does anyone ever need a reason to sink money into a new bike?

Anywho... i had myself convinced to the point where i was going to start looking, until i rode a 2011 w/103 on a trip we did with a few buddies. No noticeable difference to my 2010 with hi flo AC and new tune.

I personally am saving for motor upgrades if/when i get the chance
