Default New 103 on a 2012 or keep 2010

Since I am loosing my butt with the market these days, My 2010 Ultra is great with no issues, but its value is going down as mileage goes up. The idea of getting new bike is passing thru my mind....Is the 103 with the stock cam worth the trade? I know from a monetary stand point it may be stupid but.... any of you guys with 2011 or 2012 got an opinion

Why not just do the Stage 1 or Stage 2 96-to-103 conversion?
That's less than you'd lose in trade-in and really that's the only difference between the models that I'm aware of.

How many miles you have on your 2010? I would say you already took the initial hit on your 10 and stand to lose alot more buying a new bike. Is 7 cubic inches worth 6-7 thousand dollars to you? Your money, your call. If your 96 has a stage 1 it'll be at least as strong as a bone stock 103.

Depends what you are looking for. The stock 103 just has a little more torque. You could easily beat those numbers with a few upgrades to your 96. I think the Power Pack option for 2011 was worth it, with the 103, ABS, and security. I believe it is not a package deal for 2012 though.

I traded my 2010 EGC with the 96 for my 11 Limited with the 103. I absolutely hated the power of the 96. I traded it right at 1 year after I bought it and I didn't get hurt too bad, I had equity in it too. I'm pretty happy with the 103, has a substantial amount of torque over the 96. I can hit 6th gear at 60 mph and it pulls very well where with the 96 you didn't want to hit 6th gear until 65 or 70 or there was no power at all. Those are my 2 cents.

Once you get the 96 uncorked (stage 1), you should be fairly pleased.
People kept telling me not to shift into sixth until 70, but I do it often at 60 and if I am going 65, it doesn't matter what the terrain is, I don't have to downshift to 5th on the interstate.

You can trade and loose money, you already seem to acknowledge that.

The 103 has marginally more power ( as pointed out)- when I was test riding ( and had already found a great deal on a used 96")- I rode the 96, 103 and the 110 from the demo fleet

For my money, the 96 was fine. My intention was to go stage 1 and stay there.

Also above, it is noted that with the additional torque you can shift into 6th earlier--- is that worth a few grand to you?

- and never look at a vehicle as an "investment"- it is never worth more than it was on the showroom floor

My Pal stores his 103 with my in the winter- no big whoop over my 96", for the thousands of $ i saved.

The performance increase of the 103" (stock) over the 96" (stock) is minimal.

I went from a '09 EGC with a 96" to an '11 RKC with the 103" There is some increase in performance, but it's not THAT much better AND the RKC is also 100 pounds lighter. That's going to make a difference.

My advice, unless you've got a ton of miles on the '10... stick to what you've got and throw a couple of grand (Stage II Big Bore) into the 96" if you're worried about power.

My buddy's 07 SG (originally 96") with the 103" Stage II Big Bore kit will take my stock 103" RKC.

Food for thought
