I didn't miss anything, I only know what someone posts, they didn't mention using a kit from a shop. Anyone can put a 107 together using the proper pistons and not use a kit to do it, just like a 103. And the Jersey Jet here is right about a built 103 versus a built 107, the difference will be maybe 4hp between the 2 maximum, all things being equal, not worth tearing it apart.
Again. The op was asking about stock engines. Coolhawg6622 was NOT referring to a stock 107 as they are not offered.
I went through the new bike thing and traded my 07 for a 2010. No difference in engine size but decent improvements on the frame, etc. If I had to do it again I might do it different. Cams, a good air cleaner, exhaust, and a tuner will really wake up your 96 inch.
[If the dealer does the work, they should honor the extended warranty.I'd rather have a trusted indy do it though!! their builds are far superior to a dealership build!!]
What he said. Dealer will be there forever just because they are HD dealer. Indy has to make good to stay in business. HD warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on in my opinion. They will blame you for everything just to keep from having to warranty anything. JMO and experience
Thanks to all who have answered my OP. There is alot of good info here that has helped me decide to keep my bike.
I also contacted my dealer yesterday asking about extended warranty .....$1-2K......it does interest me to some point but I will never go back to my dealer for a 103 conversion.....it would strickly be Indy.....so for $2K its better left under the bed for a rainy day breakdown. I am waiting till May when my 2 years are up and doing some upgrades beyond my stage one......basically getting rid of the "DAMN CAT"..... adding a tuner and new pipes.....

Again didn't miss anything. I was responding to the 107 post, and assuming(maybe incorrectly) that we were only comparing all things equal.
Hilarious, no difference between a 96 and a 103 but a huge difference between a 103 and a 107, too funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
isnt it!!! since harley doesnt put a 107 in a bike its about 25hp and 40 tq.......duuuhhhhh...
There is no difference in a 96 to a 103...I have had both!! a TUNED 96 with a pipe and A/C will run NEXT to the same 103 all day long......there is no seat of the pants difference.....none....because your a** cant feel 2 horse...
If you want to "believe" there is because you paid more than go ahead as your only fooling yourself.....
the 103 is a better PLATFORM to hop up.....thats about it...

put yer crack pipe down!!! Ya think ANYBODY is going to bore their jugs to change to 107 pistons and thats it?? your funny......duuuhhhhh again
And Jamies 107 will smoke any 103 with the same components.....it would cost an extra 1K to make that much power in your 103 AND we are talking about things being WORTH IT CORRECT.....??

You can't feel 4 horses either was my point. And the only difference between a 103" and a 107" built the same will be that or less. That is the same comparison as comparing a stock 96" to a stock 103". A guy can build any of them up to make a nice riding bike and trading in to just get the 103 just does't make a lot of sense.
Why not just do the Stage 1 or Stage 2 96-to-103 conversion?
That's less than you'd lose in trade-in and really that's the only difference between the models that I'm aware of.
Exactly my thought. Since the 2012's have the 103 standard you will really take a hit on a trade now. Mine has the 96 and it's plenty good enough to haul my crusty *** around.

Common sense isnt so common....
i wouldn't spend the extra money to do a 107 to get just a few more ponies / tq.The money you would spend & the extra power you would get it's not worth it!!! JMHOP.I personally don't think there is a big difference!!
I have an '09 with 31K on it. I love my bike. I have a stage 1 from fuelmoto, nothing fancy. I ride with a group where some have 103s, a couple of 110 CVOs, some built motors, and a couple of vrods. Pretty much no one is stock. Everyone rides aggresively. In a flat out drag race the built motors and the vrods run away somewhat, the others not so much. In regular riding on twisty roads most of them have a hard time keeping up with me. The road makes the motors pretty equal. I wouldn't upgrade just for the motor.
