Default King Tour-Pak Question - Need some Guidance

Couldn't find a specific answer on this via searching so I'm going to ask.

I have an '07 Street Glide. I want to purchase an a new '09 king tour-pak (since I can get the factory color matched - and HD only offers it for '09 and later tour paks) and install it on my bike. I currently have the detachable docking hardware for 2007.

Can I simply drill "different" holes in the metal plate and tour-pak to match the hole pattern for my 2007 docking hardware? Will this require any additional "rigging" such as spacers, etc.?

Is there a template I should use, and if so, where would I acquire this?

Thanks in advance for any help ideas.

A new tour pack has no holes in it, if I remember correctly. I sat mine on the rack, holding it in place carefully and checked the fit. There is a metal backing plate in the tour pak and those holes matched up. I put tour pak on bench with a scrap piece of pywood underneath and drilled the holes. Good luck, I know its scary drilling an expensive piece of plastic!

this gives you the opportunity to determine the spacing of the tour pak, some like it closer, some like it further back esp. if the passenger is larger.

The closer to center the better- that goes for any weight.

Drilling the abs plastic, use a nice sharp bit and low speed- let the bit almost "grind" it's way through- support it on th ebottom side if you can. ABS is resiliant, just don't push down really hard.

AND mask everything to protect your paint.

This is also the time to add the billet hinge kit as well.

It's my understanding that the metal plate in the bottom of the tour pak has holes already drilled in it, but the "plastic" does not. What I'm wondering is this:

Can I drill new holes in the metal plate, through the plastic that will match up with my 2007 docking hardware hole pattern? If so, will the docking hardware fit fine, or will I need to add in spacers or something like? I ask this because it seems that the docking hardware would then be married up to a different part of the bottom of the tour pak.

Just put a new Tour-Pak on my 09 Road King. The pak came with pre-installed nuts inserted in the bottom of it. They matched the hole pattern of the removable bracket. It was a simple bolt the bracket to the pak. I don't know if the hole pattern would match your bracket but you would probably want to drill the bracket, not the pak, to match the bolt pattern! Just a thought!!

Interesting the different answers...I just put a new king tour pak on my 2011 FLHP road king yesterday. The holes are pre-drilled. Mine did not come with bolts already inserted as someone previusly mentioned. Mine came with bolts etc in a separate bag and was well packaged. You may have to (likely) have to drill some holes to make it fit, but again, as someone mentioned, yummy want to consider drilling the rack and not the tour pak.

I don't know how the o7 mount but dont they have a hoop mount. If so I didn't see a recess in my 09 tour pack that would accommodate that loop bar. I jus mounted mine recently too on an 09.

I put a tour pak from the SE Ultra on a Softail and had to drill holes to match. I kept the tour pak when I traded for the Street glide and bought the mount for it. 2 of the holes matched 2 did not. I drilled 2 more holes and it works with no problems.

I used Black Tape and Black silicone to fill the un-used holes. Once it drys pull the tape.

Good Luck,
Ken
