the inner fairing will crack at times for sure if you dont insert with the slot down. i use jb weld stick i had one crack and you just knead it together and place around the crack. I also put around the other 2 to give them more support the plastic is thin where the inserts go this will build the area up and no worries about cracking again. J-B Stik will fully cure 20-30 minutes; and can be drilled, sanded, filed, tapped, machined, and painted. J-B Stik requires no tools or "prep time", and makes no mess. This stuff is good bought at walmart

Well, not going to do that. I engineered a fix that is much stronger now and it should hold forever.
What did you do? I've tried the jb weld too but nothing holds; very annoying!

Yes, pray tell, what fix did you engineer? Can you please share it with the forum?

Do you have the part number by chance?

The well nuts are #5207 but I'm not sure what you got is the same part.

I would welcome a new solution to the problem...I'm in Canada and some company wanted $36.00 to ship 10 screws..talk about screwing!!!!

thanks

Sounds like you stripped the brass fitting that the screw goes in. Not a big deal, HD sells a repair kit, you can remove the stripped one and replace it. If you take it to HD, they will charge you an hour labor. I would go to youtube and see how to do it yourself. From what I have heard, its not that hard.

like some of the other posters, I just cleaned the treads, 2 part epoxy, and waa la its fixed, I also recommend some blue lock-tite on the screws, so you can put them snug and they wont come out while driving [not sure how I know this? ]
